There are about 5 spots in here where I just bust out laughing.
The video just continues to ramp up and ramp up and ramp up in intensity right through the end. We were absolutely rolling in the office by the 10 minute 30 second mark and then it just goes into overdrive.

Here is a video he produced for a piece in the Salem Evening News about Gene Murray. Gene Murray will be teaching his last dance class in the building where his studio resides after almost 40 years on June 30th-
This is the type of video work that I hope to some day be able to produce. Excellent Work Mark

The above is a link to the trailer for the Canadian Evasion TV cooking show “Bouffe en Cavale” or “Gourmet on the Go”. Note the harbor in the image. In past seasons Chef Vincent Chatigay and good humored co-host Norman Helms travelled throughout Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. This season they have “Grilled” their way around New England. They were in Gloucester last fall to visit the local Rum Distillery, Ryan & Wood, home of Folly Cove Rum. In the show Distiller Bob Ryan explains the process of making his Folly Cove Rum. They stayed and ate in Gloucester for several days. In return Vincent and Norman showed some of the various ways they utilize the Folly Cove as a culinary ingredient. GIGOT D’AGNEAU GRILLÉ AU RHUM ET AUX ABRICOTS, SAUTÉ DE LÉGUMES AU CARI ET AUX FRUITS MACÉRÉS, PUNCH AU RHUM, are dishes on the show which were assembled one beautiful morning on the docks of East Gloucester.
If you have friends or customers in Canada have them watch the show and give them another reason to come back to Gloucester!
Cheers,
Bob Ryan-Ryan & Wood, Inc.

Thank you! for the most fun and most unique interview of my life.
My only regret is that I didn’t get to ask you any questions and so missed an opportunity to learn more about you.
Many, many thanks for your support and your interest.
All best, Laura
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Laura Harrington is an award-winning playwright, lyricist and librettist. She teaches playwriting at MIT and lives in Gloucester, MA. ALICE BLISS, her first novel, grew out of Harrington’s one-woman musical Alice Unwrapped, which ran off-Broadway in New York and in the Minneapolis Fringe Festival in 2009.
Set in upstate New York, ALICE BLISS is about a 15-year-old girl in 10th grade, named Alice Bliss. She is deeply connected to her dad who is serving in Iraq with his Reserve unit. It’s a transforming coming of age novel about a small town looking after its own in times of loss; the love between an absent father and his daughter; the complicated love between Alice and her mother, Angie; and first love between Alice and the boy next door. It’s a universal story and yet touches upon something very personal: these characters’ struggles amid uncertain times echo our own, lending ALICE BLISS an immediacy and poignancy that are both relevant and real.

I hope everyone understands that with all the injustice that happened with the regulators in the fishing industry that there is one man, ONE SINGLE MAN who is most responsible for exposing it all and getting the wheels turning to see that things change.
That man is Richard Gaines at The Gloucester Daily Times. For years complex rules were made and the regulatory scheme changed so often and without warning that even the most involved person in the fishing industry would be forgiven for giving up trying to understand it. This is the reason that the regulatory departments within the government basically got away with anything, because no reporter would bother to try to figure out the moving target.
Ray Lamont, editor at the GDT in his wisdom, unleashed the journalistic beast that is Richard Gaines. Armed with the protection of the First Amendment Richard threw himself headlong into this world and immersed himself trying to figure out just what the hell was going on. As he dug it became apparent that fisheries management was completely out of control.
He exposed it and exposed it and exposed it daily and it was through his investigative journalism that people began to understand just how fucked up it all was. This is the reason that the politicians got involved because they could no longer sit on the sidelines, the abuse had become apparent after Richard had broken it down for all to see in the pages of the Gloucester Daily Times. Before Richard took on the task, there was literally NO ONE who brought all the complexities to the masses.
Richard Gaines deserves the highest journalistic awards this country has to offer.
Here are some interviews I did with Richard not long after he had taken on the waterfront beat for The GDT back in June of 2009-
Does anyone know who one needs to write to nominate him? Because hopefully he gets the recognition he deserves.

I think I’ve written and told more people in the past that The Heritage Center along with a whale watch, a sail on the Thomas Lannon and stop at Cape Ann Museum are all must-do activities for any tourist as well as locals when in Gloucester MA. Here is an opportunity to get your whole family in to see all the cool stuff at the Heritage Center including the touch tanks, Geno’s Dory Shop which Marty highlighted yesterday, the Dive Locker, the exhibits, the docks, the list goes on and on.
Do yourself a favor and instead of getting pounded for $20 plus at the New England Aquarium per personplus parking or the over $10 per person at The Peabody Essex Museum spend a measly SIX DOLLARS for your whole family for an experience where you get to touch fish right down on the docks!
Gorton’s Seafoods Gallery At Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center
Getting pictures of stuff behind glass is a challenge, especially without a tripod and with funky lighting but this gives you a little glimpse of some of Gloucester’s fishing past which has been preserved and displayed here. You just gotta go check out the exhibit at The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center. These are original advertisement and packaging from Gorton’s back in the day. There’s just a ton to look at and discover here.
If you are looking for a Mother’s or Father’s day gift with a Gloucester flair, look no further than the GMHC gift shop. There are literally hundreds of Gloucester themed items for sale.

Here is one of the many displays at the GMHC. Depicted is a schooner fisherman in a bosun’s chair. The Bosun’s Chair is what would get hoisted up to work on the rigging up on the huge schooner’s masts.

Here students and visitors can touch marine life and get interactive. It’s a great way to bring kids that don’t have any interaction with marine life into the fold.
There are many interesting activities for children and families at the GMHC.

Kathy OReilly invited us to learn about the Business Management Junior Acievement Class at Gloucester High in which students create a business plan and create a corporation from start to finish.
Kathy Writes-
This class follows a Junior Achievement curriculum and is written to offer our students a curriculum which is rich in writing, math, communication and computer skills. The curriculum disposes these students to actively engage in critical thinking and self-accountability. This semester our class ran their our own business called “Good Morning Mugs” from capitalization to liquidation. Our mission is to learn about important business components necessary in building a business and to give our proceeds to a local non-profit organization or as a scholarship. The unique part about this semester’s class is that we applied for a loan from Cape Ann Savings Bank in order to purchase our materials (inventory) for production and sale. Our class submitted our business plan and application which was approved by Mr. Harold Rogers, President of Cape Ann Savings Bank in Gloucester. Mr. Rogers presented it to his board before the approval was made. I would love to give credit to Mr. Rogers/Cape Ann Savings for their contribution to our business and to recognize their involvement as well as advertise the importance of what this class offers our students here at the high school. I would also love to give credit to Mr. Bruce Horne and Mr. Andrew Rae from Gorton’s Seafood who come in weekly during the fall semester to encourage and mentor us in our business. They are highly dedicated in serving the community and we appreciate their time and efforts.
Each student is required to hand in an annual report which requires the following information: title page, Table of Contents, shareholder letter, Cape Ann Savings Bank Loan Application, Invoice, marketing flyer, business plan, production plan layout, balance sheet statement, Sources and Uses of Funds financial statement, 2 financial graphs showing income sources and uses of funds, shareholder list, employee sales chart, Syllabus, and officer comments. The shareholder letter will be distributed to their shareholders (along with their 13% return on their investment dividend) upon the conclusion of the class. Please see features of our class by going to www.ghsja.webs.com for more information and pictures from www.goodmorningmugs.webs.com.

There are some big fish around as Brian shows in this video from May 22-
Brian writes-
42 inch 25+ pound fish Catch & Release Striped bass top water Fishing MA Crane Beach Ipswich Essex 5/22/11 not the first fish of the year but the biggest year. Started my spring fishing with some nice striped bass riding the outgoing tide. This big striper Came up and gulped the jumping minnow down on the first cast. What made this fun was I the rod. I used a 3/8oz – 1oz Temple fork salmon pole 8’6″ or TFO rod. This was not as fat as your avg late season fish but at 25p it was fun fight on light tackle and even bent the vmc hooks. What you are experiencing is a very good tool that if handled right a competent can land very large fish and make fishing for smaller fish that more fun!

Blown away! When you can get Pete Mondello, a fisherman for over 50 years excited about a Gloucester fishing industry exhibit you know you’ve done something special.
The way Abby has broken down such an incredible amount of fisheries statistics into an easily digestible visual/artistic/educational/fun presentation with everything you need to know about where Gloucester’s fishing industry has been with data and visuals bringing you right up to the present is nothing short of astounding.
This is an uncomplicated 101 guidebook to Gloucester’s fishing industry which has distilled all the data and will give any person a good basic understanding of what is going on around the Gloucester waterfront. The way it is broken down there is info for people 7 years old to 70 and it is all incredibly interesting. Every person who considers themselves a real “Gloucesterite” NEEDS to come see this exhibit.

I had no idea how much the people who work at the Cape Ann Museum love their job and how willing they are to investigate things for you.
Listen to this interview with Stephanie Buck and get an idea of what I’m talking about-
The bar on which Stephanie’s arm rest is the exact bar from the tavern of Howard Blackburn. Just one of a gazillion interesting artifacts down in the archives at The Cape Ann Museum!
