St. Peter’s Fiesta Climax is full of music

Fiesta Sunday is the big day (see the schedule here).  This year one our local favorites, Cape Ann Big Band, kicks off the official Fiesta Sunday music from the St. Peter’s Park Stage at 3pm — and they have a terrific lineup of guest vocalists: Kate Barry, Mari Martin, Carolyn Seavey, and Steve Russo!  You just don’t want to miss this.  Here’s a taste of their talent from their first year of performing — and they get better every year!

Of course there’s music all day and into the night on Sunday all over Cape Ann — 16 live shows as of this posting.  Always check the complete live music listings for latest updates.

Cape Ann Community Cinema Fiesta Weekend

Buona Fiesta!

It’s that time of year again, when our neighborhood in Gloucester’s West End is taken over by elated revelers, Greasy Pole walkers, and the sons and daughters of this humble fishing village coming home for this 5-day holiday. As we share a building with the St. Peter’s Club, where the famous statue resides for the 364 days out of the year when he’s not painting the Fort red-and-green, we have become molto sensible (very sensitive) to the tastes of our Italian members and friends. This is why we have special programming during Fiesta week and Columbus Day weekend.

It’s time for Joe Wilkins

JoeWilkins
Joe Wilkins on the Local Music Seen set

OK, if you haven’t heard Joe Wilkins, it’s time.  Don’t let his pleasant, unassuming personality fool you.  This guy is a powerhouse talent, whose songs paint vivid pictures in your head, so you might not notice just how good he is on guitar.  You can see him on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes tomorrow (WED) at 6:30pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Then bop over to Giuseppe’s and catch him live with Chris Langathianos.

If you miss tomorrow, you can see him with Joe Cardoza on bass and Leo Ciamitaro on drums at Dog Bar for a Fiesta Friday party.  And if you’re in the mood for something more quiet, catch solo him at The Landing on Saturday.  See full live music schedule here.

Listen to this from Local Music Seen:

Watch what happens at 1:16 in this video and you’ll get why he’s a pro.  See more Joe Wilkins videos here.

Come Monday morning, there’s simply no excuse for not knowing who this rising star is.  Before you know it Joe Wilkins will be on tour in Europe or Asia and you’ll have missed your chance to see him in an intimate venue serving good food in your own back yard FOR FREE!

They’re Ordered! The First Official High Quality GMG Logo Caps

Because There were people on both sides of the black cap/blue cap fence I ordered limited quantities of each.

Three color embroidery low profile caps so you don’t look like a dunce with one of those cheap high front trucker caps you see all over the place.  I ordered the exact hats I wanted for myself.  No compromises.  Something I personally would be proud to wear.  Can’t wait to get ‘em.

They should be in in about a month and I don’t suspect they’re gonna last long. (I’m taking a black/black and a navy/black for myself) Smile

Cape Ann Community Cinema Indie Gogo Update

21_Main_Street1317316694

Hello again,

Wow! What a great response we had to last week’s email detailingour crowdfunding campaign to make some needed improvements to our humble movie loft!

Thanks to your donations, we have reached our first goal of $6,000, which means we can procure that new projector! The next $2,500 will cover the installation of the projector, and the $2,500 after that will buy a fancy silver screen so we can present select features in 3D (wouldn’t “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” and “Pina” have been wicked cool in 3D?).

Your donation to this essential campaign is tax-deductible, and we have a dozen different thank-you gifts, ranging from bumper stickers to private movie parties to complimentary admission to the Cinema for a whole year. The full menu of premiums is listed on our Indiegogo page. This campaign ends July 22nd, and if we reach our goal, we can be up-and-running with the new gear just after Labor Day.

The full inventory of our needs and plans can be found on our Indiegogo page. This campaign ends on July 22nd.

Oh, and I have some more great news to share with you. This week, I booked best-selling author Judy Blume to come present “Tiger Eyes,” the first big-screen adaptation of one of her books. She will host a Q&A after the movie. Order your tickets (while we still have some) at http://www.CapeAnnCinema.com.

Thanks again––more news as it breaks!

Wicked appreciatively,

Rob Newton

FREE Boulevard Concert JULY 3 featuring Cape Ann Big Band, Runaround Sound

Runaround w/ Laser Light Show on the Boulevard

Once again, the Gloucester Fund and gimmesound.com present a FREE CONCERT ON GLOUCESTER HARBOR featuring Cape Ann Big Band and Gloucester’s #1 Party band Runaround Sound, plus we have some surprise featured vocalists TBA.

Ringo Tarr, Gloucester’s hardest working behind-the-scenes organizer, has done it again. He’s bringing his stage to the Boulevard for a rousing celebration of our independence through music, parade, fireworks and one of the most powerful laser light shows in New England– Best of all, it’s all FREE thanks to Ringo’s hard work and the musicians’ generous spirit.

Here’s the schedule:
5:00 Music Begins (band TBA)
6:00 Music breaks for Horribles Parade
7:00 Cape Ann Big Band & Runaround after parade
9:30 Fireworks over Gloucester Harbor
10:00 Spectacular LASER LIGHT SHOW by RK Lighting Design
Then dance with Runaround under the stars & the lasers.

There’s nothing like dancing on the Boulevard to the Runaround Sound with RK’s lasers overhead. DON’T MISS IT!  Here’s a video of Runaround at Capt. Carlos.

You can get into the party spirit with Runaround tonight at 9 at Minglewood Tavern.  See Cape Ann’s complete weekend live music schedule here.

World Premiere Tonight!!!

It’s here! I can’t tell you how overjoyed I am to have the world premiere of my film in my beautiful hometown community with my friends, family, and well-wishers in attendance. It’s going to be wonderful night and I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who is attending. I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night at my premiere and at Fred Bodin’s gallery for a fun rockin’ party afterwards!

Note ~ Felicia and Pat are providing a fabulous array of refreshments–even more of a reason to come to join us at Fred’s!

Cape Ann TV Annual Special tonight 10:30 on Channel 12

Last month we told you about Cape Ann TV’s Annual Meeting, which they filmed and it airs as a special tonight at 10:30 p.m. Channel 12.

“Why would I want to watch an annual meeting?” you ask.  Well, this is not your average annual meeting.  It’s fun.  Allen Estes and I were among 4 producers who talked briefly about our experiences and showed clips from our shows (Local Music Seen in our case).  The other producers were Kim Smith who wowed us with clips from her spectacular butterfly movie that premieres Friday at Cape Ann Community Cinema (more on that here); Shaun Goulart, who’s tale of how he came to make his thriller is almost a thrilling as the movie itself; and John Ronan, who has the longest running show on Cape Ann TV and offered us a wonderful surprise in his clips.  Here’s a taste of what you’ll see:

If you miss it tonight, you can catch it again Saturday 6/22 at 5pm and Monday 6/24 at 9pm.

One of the things Allen talked about is how the music scene in Gloucester and Cape Ann is growing.  Proof that he’s right can be witnessed this weekend with over 50 live shows to choose from starting tomorrow.  See the complete live music schedule here.

Life in a Nutshell

Renata Aylward – My stories. My way.

Ranata has some nice things to say-

Good morning readers.

Taking the opportunity on this grey and rainy day to let you know about a great blog that I found through a friend. The blog, “Good Morning Gloucester” is helmed by Joey C. (don’t ask me to spell his last name or it will take up all the space I have for this post.) You don’t have to be from Gloucester to enjoy the blog. It is written with wit, humor, love, and a large dose of community involvement. This is a blog with a heart and soul.

Thank You April Smith!!

Yesterday while at CATV making copies of my film, Beeman School 1st grader April Smith lent a hand by agreeing to be my focus group that afternoon. Her candid response to the film, “I loved it!” When I asked what her favorite part was, she first said the music (thanks to my darling daughter Liv for providing the vocals and dear friend Kathleen for the accompanying pipe organ), and then she added she also liked the butterflies and caterpillars. I guess that just about covers all!  Thanks April!!

And special, special thanks to Andrew Love and April’s Mom, Lisa. Lisa, very graciously, has been sharing the Final Cut editing station (located smack dab in the middle of her hectic office at CATV) with me for the past several weeks.  Andrew once again provided much appreciated assistance with editing and techno problems.

P.S. April was not playing hookey; she was missing school because of a miserable head cold.
