October walk on Good Harbor Beach

Good Harbor Beach never disappoints.  Autumn days are so pretty, with blue skies and blue ocean.   The ocean and air temperature was still warm enough to go barefoot.  Love the sand and salt water on my feet.

Literary Cape Ann Event Saturday October 24th

Wild Life! Natural World Immersion

Time for joyfulness! Literary Cape Ann honors the beauty, meaning and value of our natural world. Share your thoughts with our multidisciplinary panel — Ann Joslin Williams, author; Lis McLoughlin, director of Writing the Land Project; Tom Palance, artistic director of Orchestra on the Hill; and Martha Doolin, painter. Actor Peter Berkrot presents dramatic readings. Saturday, Oct. 24, 1 to 3 p.m., Shalin Liu Performance Center, Rockport. Free. No reservations.

CAPE ANN COLLECTORS “Affirmation of Life: Bold Color Fields and Kindred Spirits” opens 10/17 & 10/18!

Nell Blaine (1922-1996) described herself as “defiant in joy.” After being stricken by polio at age 38, she often put down “every color I have” on her plate glass palette. Highly regarded as a gestural colorist, Blaine persistently bridged the delicacy of intimate interiors and salient aspects of nature through Abstract Expressionism for most of the late 20th century.

CAPE ANN COLLECTORS autumn show, “Affirmation of Life: Bold Color Fields and Kindred Spirits,” opens October 17-18, 1-5 p.m., celebrating life, color and joy – an intentional nod to Manship’s “HOCKNEY REPRODUCTION(S)” radiating intense, joyful, expressive chromatic hues. New ways of seeing, feeling and creating drove both Hockney and Blaine.

Kindred spirits with screenprint, sharpened color and graphic force, Blaine and Hockney brought inclusion and immediacy to image-making. Leaping from a dedicated sketching practice, this modern representation floods CAPE ANN COLLECTORS’ main gallery. On display are new master works by Nell Blaine and Theresa Bernstein, alongside artists William Meyerowitz, Ethel Louise Paddock, and Erma Wheeler (all 55 works on view).

Join CAPE ANN COLLECTORS’ autumn celebration of accessible defiance!

Redesigned canntran.com makes it easier to explore routes, senior transportation, accessible services, fare-free transportation, and more across Cape Ann.

The Cape Ann Transportation Authority (CATA) has launched a redesigned website at canntran.com, giving residents, commuters, seniors, riders with disabilities, and visitors an easier way to find transportation services and plan trips throughout Cape Ann.

CATA provides public transportation throughout Gloucester, Rockport, Ipswich, Essex, Hamilton, and Manchester-by-the-Sea, connecting people with work, healthcare, shopping, community resources, local destinations, and the MBTA Commuter Rail.

The new, mobile-friendly site brings CATA’s many transportation options together in one place with clearer navigation, more detailed service information, and practical resources designed around what riders need to know

What’s New?

Visitors to canntran.com can now:

  • Explore individual bus routes with schedules, maps, route highlights, and helpful trip information.
