Twin Peaks The Return - Lissie Wild West.jpg

Twin Peaks: The Return– the roadhouse closing credits at the Bang Bang Club were excuse me damn fine music, chimed with each episode, transcending. (Maybe David Lynch can check out the Gloucester music scene and vocalists. Who should he listen to?)

From the series-  “No Stars” vocals REBECKAH DEL RIO, Moby (guitar) Nick Launay (keyboard), Mick Flowers (drums) co-written by David Lynch, John Neff and Del Rio

Son of a Gun We Had Big Fun | scenes from #CapeAnnBigBand summer concert at Gloucester’s famous UU Church

WOW! Son of a gun we had big fun on Middle Street Friday September 8, 2017.

There was an ensemble mix from Cape Ann Big Band self dubbed ‘Jambalaya Horns’ at Gloucester’s famous UU Church for the last Friday Night concert of this popular summer series.  “Music on Meetinghouse Green” passed the hat for the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation (GMF) fire sprinkler project, part of the UU restoration efforts.

Middle Street was alive with the sounds of New Orleans thanks to the Cape Ann Big Band players:
Gary Wolsieffer – Tuba/bass
Carlos Menezes Jr. – Saxes/Vocals

Zach Gorrell – Keys/Saxes
Rick Geraghty – Drums/Vocals
Jon Persson – Trumpet
Tom Bones – Trombone
Joe Wilkins – Guitar/Vocals

Anthony Rocco – Trumpet/Vocals

sound snippet solos:

Jon Persson trumpet (9 sec)

Zach Gorrell sax (19 sec)

Joe Wilkins guitar (13 secs)

I missed hearing the students from Gloucester’s O’Maley Innovation Middle School jamming with the Cape Ann Big Band. Carlos Menezes has to be among the coolest school music directors in the country.

There was a soccer game at Gloucester High School, a short walk and many pleasant route options away. I marvel at Gloucester’s amazing public spaces.

Cape Ann Big Band jaw dropping O’Maley fundraiser

On June 17th, the last day of school, the classic 17 piece Cape Ann Big Band hosted a Spring/Summer Concert at the O’Maley Middle School, A Swing Extravaganza. Listen to some of the songs in the clip below! The band was formed in 2010. The band leader for this super professional, top-notch, sought after band is Carlos Menezes Jr. He just happens to be  the director of the O’Maley music department! Our students have access to astonishing and creative visual arts, performance, and music teachers.  The members of the Cape Ann Big Band, Gloucester Education Foundation, O’Maley Band Parent Organization, Captain Hooks, Supinos, Paula Burns, and others are making this music happen to inspire the kids in our community.”80% of all ticket sales went to help fund new instruments and band room renovations at the Middle School.” Plus Cape Ann Big Band announced during the concert that they are donating those sweet stands to the music department.

Just sayin’-  You can book the Cape Ann Big Band. http://www.cabbswings.com

Here’s two minutes of video snippets including classics Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and ‘S Wonderful with vocalist Katy Geraghty. You’ll hear a huge round of applause for Carlos Menezes Jr solo, and stunning vocals from Kate Barry, Scott Parisi and Nathan Seavey. I loved the rendition of “Me and Mrs. Jones”  the 1972 song by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, and Cary Gilbert. My phone battery died so I didn’t grab from that song. I also missed the O’Maley Jazz ensemble who played a big set of 10 songs with many solos. They were incredible. Next time you hear that the school band or Cape Ann Big Band are playing a gig make it a point to see them.

St. Peter’s Fiesta Climax is full of music

Fiesta Sunday is the big day (see the schedule here).  This year one our local favorites, Cape Ann Big Band, kicks off the official Fiesta Sunday music from the St. Peter’s Park Stage at 3pm — and they have a terrific lineup of guest vocalists: Kate Barry, Mari Martin, Carolyn Seavey, and Steve Russo!  You just don’t want to miss this.  Here’s a taste of their talent from their first year of performing — and they get better every year!

Of course there’s music all day and into the night on Sunday all over Cape Ann — 16 live shows as of this posting.  Always check the complete live music listings for latest updates.
