Wicked Bites TV visited Essex and Ipswich in a big way this month to review “Clam Alley”. Visitors often ask what is the best place for a lobster roll? and fried clams? “Clam Alley” extends throughout Cape Ann. In Gloucester there’s Charlie’s, Gloucester House, Lobsta Land (another gorgeous marsh vista), Captain Carlo’s, the Cupboard and Lobster Pool in Rockport to name a quick few…what else?
Wicked Bites is scheduled on Saturdays at 9:30am on NESN. From their sites:

Here is a digital who’s who catalogue with portraits of the participating artists and scenes from the inaugural Cape Ann Art Show at the Beauport Hotel Gloucester, MA. The art fair and the hotel were jumping on this gorgeous evening. Original works of art (not reproductions) were priced under $100 and up from there. The artists and the hotel were so well prepared and joyous, I was compelled to record their effort. Apologies if I missed anyone. I jotted down contact information and linked to artists when possible.

Someone’s been carving more – now there’s fish schooling up, “Sacred Cod”, is chain saw carving commission by Doug out of Lynn. Find the tree stump carved into public art between Walgreens and Orange Leaf, roughly 102 Rogers Street, Gloucester, MA. There’s a ‘cap’ atop the column which fostered various descriptions and predictions (suggestion of street lamp or light, quotas, more to come…)

There are extensive examples of fish and public art in Gloucester. For a quick mini FISH SCULPTURE TRAIL …Head down the street for another intricate wood carving of fish in Latitude 43 arts collection

“Mass Cultural Council will accept applications in Choreography, Fiction/Creative Nonfiction, and Painting beginning December 15, 2017. Application deadline: January 29, 2018…Visit the MCC redesigned ArtSake blog, our online resource to support new art and Massachusetts artists. Every week, we round up a list of opportunities for artists – a way to find your next contest, artist residency, call to artists, publication, and more.”
Gloucester artist, Erica Daborn, was awarded an MCC fellowship grant in 2016.

Cape Ann SUPahBowl, Gloucester’s biggest paddle board racing event, brought more than 60 contestants to Pavilion Beach at Beauport Hotel early this morning. It was a rainy start but gave way to a beautiful day on Gloucester Harbor.
Congratulations on a such an amazing launch Cape Ann SUP! And to all who pulled this together including Beauport Hotel, High 5EM event management company, Barefoot Wine (the largest wine spritzer company in the country I was told- who knew?), One Ocean One Love retail shop, and a big family of volunteers and staff.
The race had staggered starts for 4 various classes: elite, amateur, open and kids. The elites kicked it off and had the longest distance course. The video shows the start of the first two groups heading off to turn right… at the Greasy Pole! Coast guard and police boats were on hand and a paddle board pit stop at each buoy should any help be necessary. Photos from today’s event below.

Racers return to Pavilion Beach after grueling courses. Cape Ann SUP (red t-shirts) staff wait to carry and beach each and every board as contestants dismount and sprint –carrying their paddles — through to the official finish line and timer.
Finished racers await other contestants and times. Many knew each other and competed in all 4 races of summer 2017.

Vinnie, Dominic’s dad (white shirt), worked throughout the event (setting up finish line here with High 5em!) and worked through the celebration. “It’s a family effort and affair,” he said speaking to how the race is put on and who it caters to. There was a tremendously positive vibe!

The view from the Beauport Hotel deck is a sweeping stunner! Before the awards ceremony and reception were held, Barefoot Wine, Cape Ann SUP and One Ocean One Love shop were readying the event space with Beauport Hotel.
Gentle and fun crowd of racers. There was serious prize money and cute swag. All participants received the sweet inaugural t-shirt.
Nice to see so many families and future racers!
