Here’s Pete Mondello and Billy working on a new setting table for the Allison Carol.

When Pete hauls his ten pot trawls he will stack the pots along that setting table after they have been re-baited and then he will set the traps off the back of this “setting table”

So Pete is rebuilding his trawl table on the back of the F/V Allison Carol and I coulda sworn he had just rebuilt it last year.  I’m thinking to myself jeeze, that didn’t last long.

So I say “Pete, didn’t you just rebuild that last year?  Two years ago tops?”

His reply, “Nah, that was three years ago.”

Well guess what?  Not only wasn’t it longer than one two or three years ago, it was 6 frickin years ago!

Whenever folks stop by to ask questions at the nesting area and they see the little chicks snuggling under the adult PiPl, they almost automatically assume it is the Mama Plover. Half the time it is the female, and the other half, the male. Mom and Dad share equally in caring for the chicks, generally in twenty minute to half hour intervals. They are always within ear shot and while one is minding the chicks, the other is either feeding itself, grooming, or patrolling for predators. Last year, as is often the case, the Mama Plover departed Good Harbor Beach several weeks before the chick fledged, leaving Little Chick entirely under Papa’s care.

I call this “Skip’s Tree” since he takes the best photos predawn right here. End of ride so I’m an hour late. (And I run into Skip under the Keystone Bridge ten minutes later with his camera out.)
PSA (Public Service Announcement) Road Race today. Just don’t get in your car. It’s not worth it.

SeniorCare Inc. will host its Ninth Annual Sunset Cruise Fundraiser, an evening cruise aboard Cape Ann Whale Watch’s Hurricane II, on Thursday, July 12, 2018, boarding at 6:30pm and returning at 9:30pm.
