An Icon Of The Gloucester Waterfront Is Retiring After 34 Plus Years- Peter Haskell At Rose’s Marine

There will be an open house at Rose’s to wish Pete well in his retirement Thursday and Friday from 7AM-5PM.
Saying that Rose’s is one of the most integral parts of the Gloucester waterfront and that Pete along with Marty and Frank Rose have been there from the beginning is absolutely without question no exaggeration. Of course Rose’s will continue on just fine when Pete retires but the knowledge base he takes with him is a treasure. I can say from the thirty plus years I’ve walked through those doors, the guys like Rusty, Frank, Frank, Pete and Marty have never once failed to execute and get our business up and running and all with a positive friendly attitude. An icon from the Gloucester waterfront has earned his retirement, best of luck to you Pete, we all wish you the best that life has to offer in retirement!

Val Gilman 2015 Gloucester Ma Candidate For Ward 4 Councilor Election Video

An Offer To All #GloucesterMA Election Candidates:
gmglogohires

As you all know we don’t take political stances here or endorse candidates but what I’d like to offer is an invitation for any candidate that is running for office in Gloucester to submit a video explaining why they think they are best suited for the position they are running for. The easiest way to do this would be to upload the video to YouTube.

The videos will be released once and placed on GMG at 7PM on the following night that they are received. If more than one video is submitted to me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com then the first one that is submitted will be aired the following evening at 7PM and the next one submitted will be posted the following evening at 7PM. There will be a link in each candidates post containing their video to goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com which will have all previously submitted candidate’s videos.

Once they are submitted they will be added to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ where all the videos will be available for viewing at any time on the same page.

In the title of the video it should list the candidate’s name- position they are running for and the words “GMG submission”.

As always the GMG politics disclaimer- any post on these pages containing a candidate does not imply an endorsement for any candidate. Comments on www.goodmorninggloucester.com for these video submissions on the blog will be turned off for these posts as well.

Hopefully this will serve to help candidates get their message across.

Good luck and thank you to all that participate in the process for the love of Gloucester and making it better.

ISRAEL HOROVITZ “GLOUCESTER BLUE” NOW PLAYING AT THE GLOUCESTER STAGE

Israel Horovitz Gloucester Blue cast -1 ©Kim Smith 2015

Francisco Solorzano, Esme Allen, Israel Horovitz, Robert Walsh, and Lewis. D. Wheeler

A New England premiere of a new play by Israel Horovitz, the founding artistic director of Gloucester Stage, is always an event to celebrate. “Gloucester Blue, ” now playing through October 3rd, is no exception. This incisive and dark comic thriller is propelled by the secret desires that explode from its four characters. The story begins when trust fund babies Lexi and Bradford Ellis hire a housepainter named Stumpy to fix up their luxury Gloucester home. When Stumpy’s regular partner can’t do the job, Stumpy enlists a dubious character named Latham to help him, and that’s when the trouble begins. In no short order, smoldering passions are ignited that quickly turn to unexpected violence. The second act of this two-act play takes you on a roller-coaster ride of twists and turns that you’ll never expect.

The four-person cast brilliantly brings the characters to life. Working their craft on the imaginative set designed by Jenna McFarland Lord, Francisco Solorzano (Stumpy), Robert Walsh (Latham), Lewis D. Wheeler (Bradford Ellis) and Esme Allen (Lexi) create vivid characters that both provoke laughter and make your heart stop with their incendiary revelations. Their interplay is electric as they strive to reveal the darkest secrets of others while concealing their own.

Cape Ann Symphony’s SEASON OPENING SPECTACULAR This SAT 9/26

CapeAnnSymphontFall2015You probably know Ravel’s Boléro from the movie “10” in which Bo Derek’s character called it, “The most descriptive sex music ever written.”

If you’re not so sure about that, perhaps you should come see the Cape Ann Symphony perform it, along with Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition (all three of these comprising an extraordinary musical feast) this Saturday, Sept 26 at 8pm at MERHS Auditorium.  (I’m not sure, but I think it’s likely that the Symphony is playing Ravel’s arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.  If anybody knows for sure, please comment on this post.)

GET TICKETS HERE.

I’ve got two entertaining Boléro videos to warm you up:

The Copenhagen Philharmonic flash mob performing Boléro at Copenhagen Central Station.  (It’ll likely be quieter in the auditorium on Saturday — with better acoustics too.)

Here’s the famous scene from “10” (don’t be fooled, the first music you hear is Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet).  Wait for Boléro.  It’s worth it.

Exhibit Event: Poetry & Conversation: Sunday October 4, 4:00-6:00 PM

Gloucester MA, August 6, 2015 — The Rocky Neck Art Colony is presenting an exciting exhibition entitled “Inner Field”. This group show by the seven artists of Cripple Cove Studios highlights each artist’s exploration of their own inner field. At the same time it reflects on the interconnections created by the space they share. The artists include: Anna Vojtech, Sinikka Nogelo,  Linda Lagano Sojda, Sandy Simon, Terry Del Percio- Piemonte, Mary Davies Cole, Deborah Flynn Aldrich, joined by sculptor Roland Cornelis.

The public is invited to an opening reception for the artists on Saturday, September 26, 4:00-6:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served in the recently air-conditioned space. Music by Barb Levine on the hammered dulcimer.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

As artists, we each retreat into our own inner field in order to create meaningful art.  As members of Cripple Cove Studios, we share the inner field of this dedicated space. Crossing the threshold, each artist leaves the outside world behind to cultivate, imagine and discover their own artistic journey.

On Sunday October 4, from 4:00-6:00 PM, join the Cripple Cove artists for a poetry reading by former Cripple Cove member and poet, Dorothy Shubow Nelson and a conversation on “Inner Field: Yours, Mine and Ours”.
