My View of Life on the Dock
In the early morning of Tuesday, July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh died in his bed at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers, France. He was only 37 years old.
What a lovely slideshow.
I have always loved Van Gogh. Twenty five years ago Barbara and I spent several days in Arles and I photographed many of the sites memorialized in his paintings. A print of his “The Siesta” hangs above our bed. A Starry Night blows my mind and Don McLean’s recording moves me to tears. The more I read about his life of anguish (the latest being VAN GOGH THE LIFE by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith), the more I appreciate his work.
Thanks for reminding us of his greatness.
