Who does this?

An actual picture of the muffin remnants left behind. Someone actually picked away at this muffin over time and left the rest in the same spot as if someone else was gonna go and eat it after.

See, if the person had taken the muffin to where they were sitting and proceeded to pick away at the muffin top leaving the bottom behind I wouldn’t have thought twice.

But the fact was that the muffin remained in the exact space where all the muffins were left out for all to enjoy and then little by little and very discreetly the muffin top was dissected and the rest left behind with the other muffins as if someone else would then look at that half eaten muffin and then said to themselves” hmm, I think I’ll go for the muffin that looks like it’s been attacked by a herd of unruly rats.”

and then, to top it all off the offender was the most unlikely and refined out of the entire group of GMG contributors.

Need office supplies? Now you can get them at Seaside Graphics!!

The crew at Seaside Graphics were incredibly accommodating during the mad holiday rush with my calendars. I couldn’t be more grateful!

As I ran in and out of the store, I hardly noticed the new additions to the stuff that’s available! Bill Liacano, Seaside’s owner, showed me the incredible items on the wall. I spent some time last week checking out the office and artist supplies that Bill’s added like:

copier paper, notebooks, tape of all kinds, Prima colored pencils, architectural rulers and templates, drawing pads, binders, sale order books, file folders, thermal paper, label paper, invoices, color copier paper, batteries, iPhone accessories, closed/open signs, calligraphy sets, pens, sticky notes, gift certificates, adding machine paper, perforated business cards, USB drives, money receipts receipts for credit cards and terminal paper, printable fabric paper, Velcro, foam core, poster board, and if you can’t find what you need there’s a Suggestion Box!!

City Of Gloucester Gloucester Clean Energy Blog

Jill Buchanan writes-

Hi Joey,

Wondering if you might include this invitation for local folks to join the new Gloucester Clean Energy blog. Here’s the invite and a pic :As someone who

I know to be interested in the local green economy, clean energy options and our coastal community’s future, I invite you to subscribe to a new local blog www.gloucestercleanenergy.wordpress.com.

This blog was recently created by the city’s Clean Energy Commission, a seven-member council that works to support the City of Gloucester, MA, in evaluating and implementing our clean energy options. Other information is available at the City of Gloucester web site.

Our blog is dedicated to keeping you up to date on Gloucester’s clean energy advancements, as well as locally-oriented news and analysis on clean energy-related subjects, money saving options, events, and volunteer opportunities.

While a rapidly changing climate, a myriad of environmental concerns and a struggling economy can make the future seem daunting, a prepared community can weather these changes well.

Below is a copy of our first blog post (also a My View column in the GDT). We will keep our posts limited to information that is mainly local and always useful. If you have issues you’d like to know about, let us know and we’ll try and cover it.

Giving Diapers Fundraiser

Hi Joey,

I was hoping you would be able to help us advertise for a fundraiser that we are doing at Jalepenos on Wed Jan 18th.  You have posted about our organization before but to refresh your memory, we are Giving Diapers, Giving Hope.  We are a local organization that lends cloth diapers to low income families across the country.  We are hosting this fundraiser and also having a 50/50 raffle with prizes.  If you could please post this on your site and/or facebook to help us get the word out, we would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,

Kristen McCarthy

Family Rock Climbing at Gordon College

Hi Joey!

I am a Gloucester resident and big fan of GMG! I am also the manager of the La Vida Rock Gym at Gordon College, a climbing facility that is friendly for families and beginner climbers. We’re planning to offer some extra Open Gym time during the weekdays of February vacation and are looking for feedback from Cape Ann parents as to what times would be most helpful for them (e.g. late morning, early afternoon, etc.). We can be contacted via email (rockgym@gordon.edu) or facebook and always appreciate suggestions!

Can you post this for me? Thanks!

Since I take so many pictures of Rafe’s Chasm

Sunset from Rafe's Chasm January 14, 2012I Thought I would give you a little background on this great spot.  The credit for the information comes from Lisa Peek Ramos’s book, called “Magnolia A Brief History”.  They believe the name came a freed slave named Ralph who settle near the chasm and built many of the rock walls that remain on Hesperus Avenue.  There is a 10 foot wide, 200 foot long, 60 foot deep chasm.  The type of rock at Rafe’s Chasm is called Cape Ann Granite and it has been a popular tourist attraction since right after the after the Civil War. Rafe’s Chasm was sold by the Trustees of Reservations in 1959 to the City of Gloucester for one dollar.  You can read more information from Lisa Peek Ramos’s book.

Did You Know? (Gloucester Cinema)

My sister Judy came to visit yesterday and wanted to go see the movie “War Horse”.  She checked for cinemas nearby where it was playing and lo and behold, it was playing at the Gloucester Cinema.  I never knew there was a first run movie cinema in Gloucester.  I had been by it many times, but never really paid attention and thought it was a car dealership (which apparently it was 20+ years ago).  John Williams (top photo) has owned and operated the cinema for 11 of its 20 years.  Tim Spinney (middle photo) operates the concession stand.  It is a clean, small cinema with 3 screens and a bunch of game things to occupy kids before the movie.  It is on Essex Ave next to the Causeway, where we went after for the some of their great clam and fish chowder, salads and a seafood platter which barely got touched, although it was fresh and delicious.  I love Cape Ann Cinema with its comfy couches and chairs and intimate livingroom feel, but it is great to know there is a local cinema to see movies like “War Horse”, which was a beautiful, thrilling, tear jerking movie by Steven Spielberg.  If you haven’t seen it, you should – bring kleenex.  Does anyone know the name of the War Horse in the movie?  Hint: he is name after our fearless leader.

8 Months Later Danvers Highway Construction Update

I wrote this on the blog May 14th, 2011-

Highway Construction in Danvers

Posted on May 14, 2011 by Joey C

I’m not sure if it’s Moe, Larry and Curley or Charlie Sheen and his two goddesses who are doing the highway work up in Danvers but I swear I’ve never seen more than three stooges working there at a time.

They’ve been working there forever. I have no idea why thus stuff takes so long. In other parts of the country I visit I swear they put in entire interstate highways in less time than they take around here to do a single overpass.

Is it a union thing? I’m not sure why they don’t bring in an army of workers and equipment and bang out one job at a time quickly rather than have 20 projects going on at once with just a handful of workers at each project and dragging it out for years.

and these were the responses in the comment section-

is this a hysterical comment made by someone who went by once, next time, take your camera and sit there for a while…this is how rumors get started…also, all projects like this a bid in an open and public way, you can research the bid process and trully have an understanding, then you can draw a conclusion not “jump to one”…

Someday, we will tell people about the on ramps on 128 during rush hour, bumper to bumper traffic and how thrilling it was to try and merge. Zero to 60 in 3 seconds.

Fast forward to today, eight months after that original post in which we talked about how long it was taking for that short section of highway to be complete

Go to Texas or Florida and they get this stuff done in months not years.  Seriously.

Get ‘er done.
