  1. This was my own annual personal retreat for many years.
I recommend this for a midweek 3-4 day event.
“The Spires” (Churchill Downs) at Louisville, Gulfstream in Fla., are a close 2 & 3. But Saratoga is the place to go. “East Coast”: thinking if you have read or seen the movie Seabiscut.

  2. Saratoga is my favorite place, not only because I luv the horses (not a gambler – just a horse lover), but during the racing season there is so much going on. Entertainment on every street corner downtown in the evenings, great restaurants, and a healthy environment. I would drink from every spring I came across. Each one has certain qualities (some for sinus problems, some for indigigestion, etc), Some taste so bad that I have to hold my nose to drink it, but I always come home from Saratoga feeling completely invigorated.

  3. So, these lawn Jock’s wear the silks, or colors, of the stable of the horse which won the race for that year. GMG sticka is on the Jock for the “Spinaway” , 120th running Sunday, Sept 4th. It is a grade 1, 7 furlong turf race for 2 year old fillies….The Triple Crown races are for 3 year olds, as is the feature race at Saratoga, the million dollar “Travers Stakes”, the oldest race in the nation at 142.
This years winner of the “Spinaway” whose name will be on this Jock for the next full year? “Grace Hall” !! I hope many will remember Gloucester’s own wonderful Grace Hall, nee Grace Aiello, who passed a couple years ago. An institution in the local banking scene, Grace was always willing to give her time, skills and effort to many charitable efforts here in Gloucester and Manchester from which she retired as manager of Bank of New England. I miss Grace.
