I’m shocked by the anti-gay statements made by New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino-

NY GOP gov hopeful Paladino makes anti-gay remarks
NEW YORK — Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino told Orthodox Jewish leaders on Sunday he doesn’t want children "brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality" is acceptable.
Paladino, who has received tea party support, made the comments at a synagogue in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg section while trying to strike a contrast between himself and his Democratic rival, state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Paladino said he chose not to march in this summer’s gay pride parade but his opponent did.
"That’s not how God created us," Paladino said of being gay, "and that’s not the example that we should be showing our children."
He added that children who later in life choose to marry people of the opposite sex and raise families would be "much better off and much more successful."
"I don’t want them to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option," he said.
He skipped one line from his prepared text in his speech at the synagogue: "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual."
Seriously???? In this day and age there are people running for as high an office as Governor of NEW YORK CITY going out of their way to make such ridiculous statements? What a jerk. I can only imagine what gay folks think of this guy if I’m this offended by his comments.
For the record I’m neither Democrat or Republican and tell our contributors to not bring politics onto GMG. I don’t consider this a political issue rather an issue of stupidity.

My thoughts exactly.

There are a plethora of tea party backed Republican candidates running for our nation’s highest offices who, as one of the Sunday morning talking heads succinctly stated, are INSANE.

It’s a shame because there is a lot (from the little I know) about the Tea Party that I like. Why can’t there just be a normal party of people that make rational decisions, are conservative with taxpayer dollars and try to bring people together rather than split them apart?

It doesn’t make good tv spots and Fox news doesn’t stand to profit from peace, nor does GE, or… So depressing that so many people cling to this kind of negativity and hatred when they are down and out instead of sticking to their values.

Why is it that all the republicans look like Mr. Burns? I mean seriously, red bulgy eyes… it’s like they were painted to be evil cartoons.

I was hoping it wouldn’t evolve into a democrat vs republican thing.

Thanks for taking a stand, Joey and the rest of you. Homophobia has got to go. Makes no difference what your political persuasion happens to be.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Joey. This guy is a windbag, and totally out of touch. And as long as we’re discussing stoopidity/homophobia, how about that bigwig at the Mormon church? Talk about being mired in the 18th century. And these are the same folks who brought you polygamy!

Did any of you actually listen to his complete “talk” or just “sound bites” from various news networks

Actually the way I heard it first was him reading from his prepared statement and it sounded worse listening the words come from his mouth than when I read them online.

What part about him reading this statement could anyone interpret in any other way that he is completely out of touch?

I have listened to all of his “talks.” He’s not particularly eloquent, so getting a coherent statement from him is not as easy as it should be.
He has been asked over and over if he has re-thought the whole thing, and he just lashes out at Cuomo and makes a political issue of it. When asked if he stands by his statements, he says he does. Clearly, he is not “getting it.” New York is a pretty open-minded state – I don’t think he has much chance of getting elected to a state office, anyway, but he is a poster-boy for the type the tea party is supporting.
Like many politicians, he’s letting religion enter the argument. Our Constitution clearly makes a point of Separation of Church and State. If only all politics WORLD WIDE were conducted without religious intervention, there would probably have been about 1,000 fewer wars in the last couple centuries!

Imagine no longer – gay folks are very upset over Carl Paladino! What we very much appreciate though, is the backlash against him by good folks like Joey. This hater needs to be shown the door.
