  1. How wonderful to see the Grand Isle slide into the harbor again. In 1992/93 when Bill Rafter was mayor, I was working for the Gloucester Commmunity Development department. Mayor Rafter invited me to travel aboard the Grand Isle to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia for the International Dory Races. Since I was the only woman on board, this allowed me to use the private captain’s quarters for sleeping. On the journey north we got fogged in slowing things down – so the Capt. and crew pulled out the fishing rods and we fished! I was lucky enough to catch a shark (almost as tall as I am). We dressed the fish and had a great feast on-board. Lunenburg and the 3 day event was just magnificent.
Unfortunately, on the return trip we encountered a nasty storm with 10ft+ seas. As I recall – everyone was feeling the “effects”. I clung to the bunk and prayed for it to pass.
Obviously – this great boat is still proving its worth and doing its job. Thanks for the great video clip to jolt my memory!

  3. My son in standing on the bow (center) of the Grand Isles in your video. I enjoyed seeing them in action. We live in northeast Tennessee and have not had the pleasure of visiting your lovely city. I have enjoyed the postings and pictures on your web site.
