  2. Christine, wonderful article – I’m so glad your proud Aunt Kathy Santuccio sent it to me. (And you look fabulous!)

I am the Grand daughter of Contadino di Acursio Dometrio. His married Caterina Sabella, and one of their daughters, Lillian, is my mother. I am happy to now know that he was one of the founding members of the La Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca Fiesta in the North End.

Thank you for sharing that information. It is an amazing link to our past. A little over 100 years ago, my adventurous grandfather came to America, and with his Sabella inlaws and others from his home town of Sciacca, created an organization that has thrived for generations.

I imagine it was probably very important to have that link to his hometown and honor those traditions, as he saved money and went through the process of bringing his wife and daughter to join him in a new life in this wonderful country that we love and respect, America, the beautiful.
