I’m happy to be the newest member of the GMG team.
Joey has already told the story of our, shall we say, impetuous, move to Gloucester from the Finger Lakes of New York last month, so I thought I’d fill in a few of the details.
I am a retired (dare I say it) attorney and (this is even worse) politician. However, for the past nearly 7 years I was the co-editor, and a photographer, reporter, distributor and fundraiser for Positive News U.S. PN is a remarkable print (circulation 20,000) and online (www.positivenewsus.org) publication produced in Ithaca, NY and Bolinas California. Our move from Ithaca made it sensible for me to step down from my PN activities and I did so—just in time for GMG to come along and fill the gap.
Photography is my main avocation (www.photonewsservice.com) and I have been a sailor and boater since age 16. I am currently boat less for the first time in 34 years, but I expect that will change pretty soon. That works out fine because Barbara and I need the time to explore and learn about our new home and community. We are thrilled with what we have seen so far.
Barbara and I met when she was in junior high and I was in high school in Queens, NY. We were married 46 years ago. Since then we have lived in Manhattan, Queens, Long Island and, for 34 years, in Trumansburg, NY. Barbara is a retired R.N., an outstanding chef and a prolific and talented quilter. She is an extraordinary mother to our two children, Brian [http://amovablebridge.wordpress.com/] (Brooklyn) and Ann (Jamaica Plain) and the world’s greatest grandma to our 4 grandchildren, Priva, Yitzchak, Shanti and Raj.
I look forward to contributing what I can to GMG and the broader Gloucester community.
Here’s my first little tidbit.

“Our life is frittered away by detail. . . Simplify, simplify.” Henry David Thoreau
That’s true. So why did he say it twice?

Welcome! I’m from south of Buffalo and went to RIT nearby: the finger Lakes area is very beautiful!
I agree, one “simplify” would have been fine. 🙂

Crikey, a lawyer and a politician. Why don’t you make it a trifecta and say you don’t like fried clams?
Just kidding. My oldest brother is a lawyer and I forgive him and I am an oddball and for the most part think politicians are a decent lot if you can keep them away from your daughters.
Wander around between Bananas and Virgilios on Saturday and I think you’ll run into all of us. I will have a robot parrot on my shoulder if I can duct tape him on.

First, Welcome Mahty!
Paul, I think he already hit the trifecta. 1) Lawyer 2) Politician 3)EX NYer.
Actually the Lawyer part will come in Handy next time one of my posts gets Banned.

I also will be the only one sporting a parrot and a Boston Celtics number 9 Rajon Rondo home Jersey no matter what they do tonight. But they are going to win by double digits because Cornbread says so.

I just want to say – (as a fellow transplant)
Welcome – we will all look forward to your posts.
esp. your photos / delicious!
My husband and I moved here 6 years ago from
Cubs-land and we are still overwhelmed by the beauty of Gloucester, the interesting people,
artistic inspiration, THE SEA…….the fish, the lobster, the scallops, downtown…., our post office (even when your mother forgets to write the full address…they get your mail to you), the Library (I love our library), our galleries, our treats….homemade fig bars with italian coffee.
Thanks for helping our pal Joey!
You’ve already found one of the treasures of Gloucester in Him!

Welcome aboard. Don’t worry about being a transplant. I was born and bred on Cape Ann but I think your family has to be at least 3 generations in to really be considered a native (I still feel like a newcomer.)

Hi Marty,
I’m another Marty, a local potter, married to a boatbuilder and avid sailor. We’d love to meet you! My husband, Mark Lindsay, is always moaning about why can’t there be more “good news’. He is always ready to share his love of sailing, currently on a 23′ wooden hulled sailboat which he built ten years ago, now anchored in the Mill River.
This weekend is the Cape Ann Artisans studio tour, of which I’m a founding member. Stop by and visit or give a call if you want to sail sometime. http://www.martymorganpots.com
