Martha Hale Harvey

Lobster Cove, Gloucester. Platinum Print Photograph by Martha Hale Harvey - ca. 1900

I was talking to Jane Enos from the Beacon yesterday about some old WPA photos of Gloucester fishermen included in the Library of Congress. I didn’t have much luck finding those photos, but I did find several by this woman. Her prints can be found in museums throughout the country.

  1. That looks like it might be across the mouth of Lobster Cove with that two master at a berth on River Rd. I am doing a project about Alpheus Hyatt who had a two masted 60 ft schooner right there on River Rd 1878- 1890.

Where can I check out more photos and are they public domain?

And last question. Can anyone guess how long the boat in the photo is? My guess would be forty but I really have nothing to go by except modern boats.
