It’s kind of ridiculous really — especially because the businesses and landmarks are all asked to pay for advertising on each of them. If the money that went into producing eight maps could be pooled and used for one complete, comprehensive, and all-inclusive piece it would be so much more effective.

Righ there with you, Kat.
The Discover Gloucester Visitor Guide- the digest sized, 48 page Guide filled with awesome stories, Glosta speak, things to do on a rainy day (very timely!) and more- came about for the very reason described.
We didn’t know what to expect as far as participation and had decide that if we produced it with just a hand full of advertisors that we would do so because we wanted to get the enticing stories out beyond Gloucester.
Go figure- there are 120 tourism dependent businesses listed in the Discover Gloucester Visitor Guide!
We’ve blown through 76,000 of them. 10,000 of them were sent around the world to fulfill requests for information.
We’re planning the second years’ Discover Gloucester Visitor Guide right now and welcome even more participation.
Supporters of the Visitor Guide get exposure at trade shows (7 of them in ’09); join in on familiarization tours and much more.
A lot of exposure for short money- and totally a volunteer endeavour.
It’s all good!
