Sunrise at Halibut Point

HPsunriseTook a ride out to Halibut Point to see the sunrise at 5:45am. Pictured is Doug Brown on his boat “Little Cove”.

  1. I was on the point too throwing poppers just for an excuse to be out there to watch one of those Kodak moment sunrises.

Then this dang boat got in the way of a perfect sunrise.

    Kidding.

  2. Gorgeous! I wasn’t sure if there was a good sunrise view at Halibut Point so I google’d it and found this. I am going to do a bridal photo session here in October. Can you recommend the best part at the park to catch the sun rising? Thanks!

  3. You’re going to get your bridal party down there on the rocky shore before 6:23 AM ? Wear grippy sensible shoes and stay off the rocks near the water that are black. Slippier than all get out.

Check this map out of the park:

To get on the shore with the sunrise as a backdrop:
    1) Park in the parking lot.
    2) Take the driveway straight north but take the path to to left that parallels the driveway when it becomes private.
    3) Continue on and get to the “Sea Rocks” which is yellow on the map. (Hit the shore, turn right.) This will give you the eastern backdrop.

Bring flashlights and watch your step on the rocks.

You can also make it a little easier on yourself by scoping out the “Atlantic Path” which hugs the coast from Halibut Point all the way to Pigeon Cove. There are multiple public access points to get to the rocky shore with the sunrise. Much shorter walk. Or Pigeon Cove up on the breakwater or Granite Pier a little further east toward Rockport.
