Coyote Attack Downtown Gloucester

Joey,
Awhile back I read a GMG blog post about a coyote attacking a cat.
I was happy to hear that the cat survived and didn’t think too much
about coyote attacks until today.
Sadly our beloved cat Daisy was attacked and killed by a coyote early
this morning. We live downtown in a totally populated and NOT wild
part of Gloucester. The coyote cornered our cat on our neighbor’s
porch. There was a ruckus as deck furniture was upset during the
struggle.
If I had known about coyotes in downtown Gloucester I would have kept
my cat in always. I hope the news of Daisy’s death will warn other
downtown folks and save at least one pet’s life.
Sincerely,
Jane Cunningham

You must have a ton of these by now, but I did post this one on my twitter, saying if you didn’t go to Gloucester today, this is what you missed!  I had a great day in Gtown.  Went to Rocky Neck and saw EJ, bought olive oil and balsamic vinegar from Cape Ann Olive Oil Co., had lunch at Lobstaland.  It is sooo wonderful to play tourist in the hometown.  How much did these ocean travelers pay to get to Gloucester?  Genie

Video- Eurodam Timelapse Leaving Gloucester MA From Pete Jordan

Hi Joey, I thought you might want to share this with your readers. My husband Pete Jordan filmed this out front of our house this evening. I thought it was pretty cool!

The Camera I’ve Been Using This Past Year Just Got A Huge Discount On Amazon From $698 to $498. It’s What I Use To Take All Those Gloucester At Dawn Photos Like This One! Gloucester At Dawn Good Harbor Beach Life Guard Chair 6:34AM 9/15/12

My NEX-5N which you’ve witnessed this past year and what I attribute to a huge portion of the fun I’ve had taking photos.  it has a huge sensor in a compact form and I can’t recommend it enough. And for the price they slashed it down to it is an absolute NO BRAINER!

It was $698 and they cut $200 off on Amazon.  I’m telling you don’t even think, just buy it and you’ll be psyched you did.  I’m getting one for the Mrs. as soon as I finish typing this.  I haven’t seen this deal any where else so I don’t know how many are available at that price but if it’s still there grab one with the kit lens.  You’ll be happy you did.

Holland America Cruise Ship Eurodam Coming to Cruiseport Sunday, September 16

Peter Webber writes-

Good day. I am writing today to remind everyone that the next major cruise ship of the season will be arriving in Gloucester Harbor on this coming Sunday, September 16: Holland America’s cruise ship the ms Eurodam, with a capacity of 2104 passengers. Once again the Chamber will be working together with the city of Gloucester’s volunteer welcoming committee and CATA to welcome and guide Eurodam’s passengers as they disembark and arrive at the Cruiseport terminal. The first tenders carrying passengers from the ship are expected to arrive at Cruiseport at approximately 9:00 am Sunday.  Many will board motor coaches for planned excursions to various locations, while many others will be guided to CATA trolleys and buses for transportation to downtown Gloucester and Rockport.

Please note the attached “Welcome Eurodam Passengers” flyer, which we encourage you to print and post at your place of business to help give the Eurodam passengers a hearty Cape Ann welcome.  I have also attached a flyer featuring several upcoming Chamber and community events scheduled for September and October, including next Tuesday’s (September 18) sales seminar with author Marc Wayshak at the Elks at Bass Rocks, beginning with check-in at 7:30 am.  Please contact the Chamber today to reserve your place.  Best regards. Peter

Hi Joey

It’s a small world that you almost bought the house we’re buying on Island Rock Lane…once we get rid of the big ugly deck, we’ll have you over for a wine, or more…

It was nice to meet you and eat your 10 lobsters on Saturday!  They were delicious!!

I’ve attached a few full-sail shots of the Mayor’s Cup.  Use what you like.

Take care

Gloucester MA Fish Landings August 20, 1917- Over 5 Million Pounds. Aug 21, 2012 Gloucester MA 97,300 Pounds. Less Than 2% of the landings in 1917 were landed in 2012

Less Than 2% of groundfish landings in 1917 were landed in 2012 on the same day yet we have a call for more subsidized on the taxpayers back commercial dockage while there’s another $100 Million Dollar buyout of Gloucester Commercial Fishing Boats and a DPA that strangles any reasonable investment in our waterfront unless you are so deep pocketed that you can fight the obstructionists who still think it’s 1917 every step of their way through the permitting process.
Brilliant.

Community Blogging 2012 Schooner Festival

Well from the numbers I’m seeing around town and on the water I’d say that Al Bezanson and my monthlong push to make people aware of the Schooner Festival had a bit of an impact on those regular folks outside of the regular Schooner circles showing up.

Nice work Al!

Here are some photos from our FOB’s from the past couple of days-

The Bounty leaving Gloucester From Christopher Lewis

Joey:

You may like these two photos of HMS Bounty leaving Gloucester on Monday morning. They show how large this schooner is. In the first photo you can compare the Bounty to the "Tuscan House" on Rocky Neck. The second photo compares Bounty with a foreground of small boats and a background of the Boulevard – a truly remarkable sight.
Take care — Christopher
