Live blogging: Chelsea Berry on Northshore 104.9 Live @ the MAC
Toys, Toys, Toys! You’ve got plenty of chances to donate toys today and tomorrow!
I know it’s a very busy time of year and there is a TON going every night (see live music schedule here) but in the midst of all the frenzy, it just feels good to give a toy to a kid in need, doesn’t it?
Tonight you can go to Alchemy tonight between 7-9, hear one of our favorite singer/songwriters Chelsea Berry and donate a toy to the Pathways Toy Drive.
And if you can’t get to that, you have all day tomorrow to drop off a toy during Bruce Tarr’s North Shore Holiday Toy Drive sponsored by North Shore 104.9 from 6am – 6pm at 10 locations (4 of them on Cape Ann). And for those of you who are like me and just can’t get enough of Chelsea Berry, you can see her at the MAC from 2-3pm when she’s on the radio.

Ed Parks Recognized for his Dedication and Contributions to Gloucester

From Gloucester Daily Times:
“
To the editor:
It was pleasing to watch Edward S. Parks Jr. receive official accolades from the city of Gloucester last Saturday morning for his service to his hometown.
At the unveiling of a harbor-side bench in Ed Parks’ honor, Councilor Bob Whynott did a nice job of outlining the career and successes of Ed Parks that included the creation of Gloucester’s watershed and the revitalization of Stage Fort Park of which the latter has now become a major revenue source for the city.
Ed Parks’ successes in life reach much further than the city of Gloucester. Mr. Parks was a graduate of Gloucester’s JROTC program and went on to The Citadel, the distinguished military school.
After college, Mr. Parks commenced a decorated 22-year career in the Army that included two tours in Vietnam. Some of his honors include two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
As his nephew, I’ve been blessed to experience Mr. Parks’ life outside of duties of public service. From a young age, he taught me a “no tolerance” policy for laziness and dishonesty while instilling the value of education enhanced by diligence and thrift.
Gloucester is a much better place for the impact that Mr. Parks has made on hundreds of summer workers who, despite their blistered hands and aching backs, know what it means to serve with honor.

Chickity Check It!- Trip For The Tree From Our Senator Bruce Tarr
Sister cities Gloucester, Ma and Shelburne, Nova Scotia have a great tradition of Shelburne giving Gloucester a Christmas tree each year and Gloucester’s legislative delegation giving books to the Shelburne library in return.
A delegation from Gloucester is now on the way to get the tree, with Ringo Tarr at the wheel of the truck and trailer that will carry it on the long journey to its place of honor at Kent Circle.
I am part of the crew, and we have video equipment so we will post clips of the trip here over the next few days. The first clip is posted below.
Bruce has his own blog if you didn’t know. You can check it out here-

Bruce Tarr 1982 Gloucester High Yearbook Photo
While talking Block Party and Downtown stuff with Erika Hansen this morning she mentioned to me that she was looking through her 1982 GHS yearbook.
Ding Ding Ding goes the light in my brain!
I got the idea to take some pictures from her old yearbook to post here. First up- Bruce Tarr Class of ’82

Going once….

Sen. Bruce Tarr keeps up with the cut-throat bidding with Joey nervously pacing the floor. All in vain, though. The bidding went too high, and Joey went home buoy-less. So sad.
