Thursday night blues party with Dave Sag’s to host Sax-Gordon @ The Rhumb Line

Dave Sag's
Dave Sag’s

Dave says,

It’s the big one: Labor Day, that is, so we’re gonna blast off into Oört Cloud Nine with that rapacious rapscallion of Rhythm and Booze: the one and only “Flash” Gordon Beadle. Frontman, vocalist, and saxophone smartypants, if you haven’t seen this guy perform, you oughta consider slashing your ankles and getting it over with. “Sax” Gordon, as many of us refer to him, is the biggest, bestest concept in  natural  pain relief I have ever known. This man has climbed Mt. Everest a million times, without ever leaving the comfort of of his home. Now he’s gonna do it here. The Natural Guard has been called out and will be on duty. Check him out on Utube. Smelling salts recommended.
Backing him up will be that amazing guitarist and Klonopin® Spokesmodel, Mr. Mike DiBari. This kat knows all the chords….Watch his fingers vibrate and flail and fade in and out of reality.* Drum chores will be handled by our Irish Ace of Pace: Mr. Benny Benson, dentologist and major teenage idol. I’ll be on the bass couch, mumbling about my childhood….
Rheumer has it that there will be a few alien landings in the saxophone department. I can’t mention it…I can’t read it, but suffice it to say that there will be jet fuel spilled and many brains deep-fat fried…

Saturday, September 21, 8 PM Presented by M.E. Productions SAVOY BROWN- UNPLUGGED featuring KIM SIMMONDS

Legendary…a blues/rock institution…true innovators. These are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown has been described over the past 40 years by music critics and fans. One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever. In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970’s. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today. From London’s Soho night clubs in 1966 to headlining the world’s most famous venues (Carnegie Hall, Fillmore’s East, and West, Cobo Hall, etc.), Savoy Brown has done it all and as the band continues to tour worldwide they give a glimpse into the past and also inspire new listeners with their personal brand of rocking boogie, blues, and rock. The band will play a special ‘bare essentials’ unplugged show, tailored for the intimate setting of the Shalin Liu Performance Center. For any Savoy Brown fan, this is a unique opportunity to see a one of a kind show with special material!

The Four Legged Faithful tonight @ The Rhumb Line

flf plainAbout the Band

The Four Legged Faithful are a band made up of 4 ordinary men who all thrive on playing music together. Their aim is not to play traditional folk or bluegrass music, but instead to create beautiful, heart-felt, and genuine music using traditional folk/bluegrass instruments. They create a sound that is honest and reflects the band’s many musical influences from nearly all genres. All members sing; creating multiple combinations of 2, 3, and 4-part harmonies. All members write and sing songs about their thoughts, families, and the natural world that surrounds them. For a band without a drummer, The Four Legged Faithful achieve an incredible level of intensity using foot percussion and layered rhythms throughout every measure.

Seafood Throwdown
NAMA’s Niaz Dorry with the Mystery Fish (gray sole) at a July 2010 Seafood Throwdown won by Sugar Mags

Can you feel it?  People trying to pack a whole summer into the last week before school starts, which seems to get earlier every year.  It feels like there’s so much going on that every choice we make effectively says “No” to a dozen other things we’d like to do.  Take today for instance.  Live music starts at 11:30am at Stage Fort Park and continues into the night at restaurants, clubs, @ Shalin Liu, on schooners and in the streets.  See the full live music schedule here.

Just in case that’s not enough for you, there’s also the Farmer’s Market at Stage Fort Park from 3-6:30 and today you can catch NAMA’s only Gloucester-based Seafood Throwdown of the year at 4:30 featuring a showdown between 2012 HarvestFest champs Gloucester’s Willow Rest and 2008 Genoa World Pesto champs Beverly’s Prides Osteria.  Spectators get to taste the food so you really don’t want to miss this one!

See how much fun these Seafood Throwdowns are in this video by Joey from the 2010 epic rematch between Passports & Dog Bar.

Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line with his special guest Lydia Warren 8.22.2013. 8:30-11:30

DSC04152

Dave says,
The heat’s on high this week as we cave in to our animal desires with the welcome addition of a new musician to our Augean Stables: Ms. Lydia Warren. This gal, tender as an egg from a bluebird’s nest, absolutely wrecked the joint at the Glou. Blues Fest a coupla weeks ago. She plays scorching glitar, and sings like an angel. You gotta czech this out. She blew me away!
Worse, I’ve got the hottest guitarist on the Boston scene, Mr. Chris “Stovall” Brown, to back her up. And, completing the circuit, Mr. Forrest “Frosty” Padgett is gonna keep time for us. I need a doctor….if you miss this, you should get burial insurance.

Giuseppe’s gets it.  They know how to blend food and music into an entertaining evening out for all ages.

Earlier this year they partnered with T Max, editor of The Noise Magazine to feature local singers and songwriters in what became a very popular Singer – Songwriter Shuffle.

Beginning tonight at 6:30pm, Giuseppe’s owners, Joe Thomas and Memory Layne are Allen’s guests on his Cape Ann TV show Local Music Seen with Allen Estes on cable channel 12.  The show airs again on Friday at 1pm, and Sunday at 6pm.  For all of you FOBs, who don’t live in Gloucester, you can now watch Local Music Seen and other shows on Cape Ann TV’s wicked cool on-line streaming service here.

If you do live here, bop on down to Giuseppe’s after the show and see rising stars Renee & Joe perform live at 7pm.  Then you can head over to the Rhumb Line and catch Allen with special guests, The Backwoods Ramblers later in the evening.

And tomorrow, live music in Gloucester starts at 1pm.  See the complete live music schedule here.

All of us are looking forward to a few weeks from now when Giuseppe’s fires up their Singer/Songwriter Shuffle for an exciting new season.  Stay tuned  . . .
