Thursby, The Rheum Line presents Mike O’Connell and his elastic band of doom: Forrest “Frosty” Padgett, on thumps, and Bobby Gus, on gootar. Bobby’s been here many times and you will be sure to dig his moves. It’s all in the wrist. He knows all the chords. 830 to 1130. Tell your friends to come on down and enjoy themselves while they can! Pretty soon, you won’t remember any of this….

Dave says,
Tonight the Kapusta King of Wooster, Mr. Mike O’Connell, returns to the Rhumb Line stage. Mikey, who was nearly arrested last week for wearing a Speedo® at the beach has just gotten back from a vacation visiting the Sonny Bono Memorial Pine Tree in Calif. Oughta be a story there…
He’s bringing the heavy guns to put you in the mood for celebration. There’s Mr. Steve Sadler, utility glitarist, Mr.Forrest Padgett, on defibrilllators and me, on the big bass.

This week let’s welcome back the Kielbasa King of Woosta: Mr. Mike O’Connell. We’re gonna have some fun, Bwana, channelling the 3 Stooges and playing our arses off to please you, the viewer. Mike is bringing in the cavalry in the form of Mr.George McCann, Chuck’s brother, and the mainstay in James Montgomery’s band, to whoop it up on guitar. Mr. Forrest “Frosty” Padgett will be sweating profusely trying to get here on time to keep time, on the drums, that is. And I’ll be there, too!
After the last time we played here, the walls needed repainting and the bathroom fixtures had to be replaced. We recommend you bring your Insurance cards, and a white flag, just in case. Mikey’s the real deal!

Dave says,
Mikey, long known as a silver-tongued crooner and water-slide glitarist, wrecked the joint last time around. We’re aiming for a repeat performance as he drags in his long time buddy George McCann, on Qatar, kicking and screaming. Seems these two cats had a hot band once, but now are satisfied feeding me kielbasa and listening to my bad jokes. Even Benny Benson, our Irish Ace of Pace and agitator par excellance is motivated to skim the froth and get down to the nitty gritty. So, come early and stay late. Bring a date and dine by the whites of her eyes!

We’re penetrating the Gardol® Shield this week with two of the finest slide glitar players this town has ever produced: Mr. Mike O’Connell and Mr. David Brown. Mikey is a big favorite, what with his agglutinated vocal style and sponge-coated gritar stylings, he’s sure to have you sucking on your upper plate, whilst he goes for your jugular. And Brownie, of course, the systolic swami of slide, with his jewel-encrusted whammy bar and electric gas pedal, surrounded by a spaghetti mess of 2500 feet or so of extra cables. Heartfelt heartbeat duties performed by one of our favorite egg scramblers: Mr. Forrest “Frosty” Padgett.
The last time this ensemble played together, I thought Mitch Miller was gonna come running and offer us a contract! But seriously, folks, it was a magic night, filled with psychic
DON’T FORGET:Â WE’RE ON WINTER HOURS: 8 TO 11. Tell your friends and enemies!
NEXT WEEK:Â Wilbur and Orville Giddings with Marque Earley and Steevee Chaggarris, the laughing drummer. The fur will fly. O.G. writes great songs. Nice teeth, too.

Here’s a list of the live music (dozens of choices).  The whole shebang goes from 6pm to midnight and is one of the best entertainment values of the year.  You can download a map and complete schedule (in table format) here.  Plus if the weather cooperates (which it just might) you can see the moon, Jupiter and its moons, and galaxies so far away they’ll convince you that you really are as insignificant as you thought — a great way to begin the new year.  The Zip Line Kid and I are still talking about how much fun we had looking through the telescopes set up by the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club at Dock Sq.
Last year we were too late to get in to see Cape Ann Big band at Shalin Liu. Â We won’t make that mistake this year. Â Here’s a sample of what we missed:
Plenty of opportunities to get into the party spirit tonight (see complete live music listings here).  Might be a good time to check out  Mike O’Connell and his excellent band at Minglewood starting at 9pm.
Even though this week has been one of the busiest ever, I got a chance to try out my new Nikon D90’s capabilities in low light last night at Lat 43. Usually the lighting makes it so I have to post-process in Photo Shop to pull out the image. Last night I was able to set ISO at 3200 and shoot at 1/60th at F2.8. It’s grainy but not bad. I’ve got a lot to learn, but that’s half the fun!
BTW…Mike O’Connell plays the best Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, and Tom Petty! Catch the band around town!
Wednesday 8:30 pm – THE DAN KING ROOTS JAM
DONT MISS DAN AND CREW EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT STARTING @ 8:30 FOR SOME “LIVE ROOTS ROCK” IN THE TAVERN…

Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ the Rhumb Line
Back by globular demand! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Lisa Marie! That’s right, folx, no tickee, no laundree, so get your butt down here Thursday and shake your booties to the booty bleat.
I don’t have to tell you about her smood singin’, her brash blaring, her total control of da megaphonium of de blooze. Plays a mean tambourine, too, or three. It’s gwine be a party to end all parties!
Backing her up  will be long-time missing saxaphonier and general cooldude, Mr. Rick Razdan. We haven’t had the pleasure in a long time as he has been recovering from botched weenis cosmetic surgery. However, we now got the green light! Greg T. will be there, too as well as myself.
So, Â put down that knitting and grab your walker and c’mon down…if you still got the strength…

Friday night at Elliott’s, 1 Main St., Gloucester, Mike O’Connell and the Backstabbers play at 8:30 – 11:30 or so.
If you like the Allman Bros., Tom Petty, ZZ Top, The Band, and Stevie Ray Vaughn, you will love this band.
With Jay Aptt (Tonekat) and Mike on guitar and vocals, Cliff Spencer on Hammond B3 and piano, Bob Vabulas on bass and Frosty Padgett on drums, this band keeps everyone up and dancing. This is one of my favorites!
