THIS WEEK’S FEATURE:

JULIA
Friday July 10 – Thurs. July 16 @ 7:30pm nightly
Academy Award-winner Tilda Swinton plays Julia, a manipulative, unreliable, compulsive liar, and an alcoholic. Between shots of vodka and one-night stands, Julia gets by on nickel-and-dime jobs. Increasingly lonely, the only consideration she receives comes from her friend Mitch, who tries to help her. After a chance encounter with Elena, a Mexican woman, Julia convinces herself – as much in panic and despair as for financial gain – to commit a violent act. As the story unfolds, her journey becomes a headlong flight on a collision course, but somehow she makes the choice of life over death.

“A messy, nervy, frequently exhilarating thriller.” – Scott Foundas, Village Voice/LA Weekly

As a member of the Board of Directors for the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce I wish I had more time to do more, but through GMG I hope to help in the best way possible and that is by highlighting some of the cooler items on the online Cape Ann Chamber Of Commerce Auction. There are some incredible deals to be had by visiting the online auction and the night of the live auction is always a blast. You can really score some cool things for often times fifty cents on the dollar.
I bought a stainless steel grill for a couple hundy at last years auction.
The item I’d like to feature today is none other than a permanent link and feature about your business or website in the sidebar of these pages (GoodMorningGloucester)- HUGE!

We’re at 21 Main Street in Gloucester, above the St. Peter’s Club and Mystery Train Records. Free parking on the street and at the St. Peter’s lot across Rogers Street (ours is the tower of mustard gold concrete).

Universal Hub is a must visit daily for me. Adam Gaffin aggregates what he considers to be the best from Boston area based blogs and throws it all in a pot and the result is Universal Hub.
Yesterday Adam featured this pic from GMG
Very worthy of a bookmark in my book. As a matter of a fact I think I’ll add it to my blogroll in the right hand column of the page so you all can check it out (right after your multiple daily visits to GMG that is) 🙂
The eagerly anticipated opening of The Hive Cape Ann will take place July 10th from 7-10PM. I’m hoping to make it and you should too!
The Hive Gallery Opening July 10th 7-10PM, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

The Hive is equal parts working studio, gallery event space & clubhouse for the younger generation of Cape Ann creative folk. We formed early in 2009 to encourage art & idea collaborations, support systems and the creation of links between individuals and their community as a whole.

The Hive seeks to build community by providing a space for arts exploration, cross-pollination of ideas and promoting creative and active lifestyles on Cape Ann.

This blog is our mainline of communication. Content ranges from what’s happening at the The Hive, to what our contributing artists are currently working on, to general info of what’s going on on Cape Ann and the surrounding area.

We are a pretty diverse crew, ranging both in our artistic styles as well as our passions. However, we find common ground in our vision to unite the creative & active community and make Cape Ann a more unique place. Check out our profiles to learn more about us.

For a place that has such a rich history with the arts, sometimes it feels like the current scene is much too focused on traditional fine art and is lacking on support for new mediums. Our gallery at The Hive sprouted from the fact that we have so many local friends doing interesting work, without a clear venue to show it.
This Black Crowned Night Heron was poking around outside the dock. It’s one of the more unusaul birds that has been showing up more and more in the past few years. I have no idea why we’ve suddenly gotten this influx of herons and egrets but it is interesting.
Steve Borichevsky and Jim Barber are two local guys who go crazy for birds and take incredible pictures of them. I wonder what it is about bird watching that gets those guys so riled up. I’ll have to ask them if it’s the sighting of a rare bird, the challenge of photographing it or something else that fascinates them so.

If you are anything like the dozens of people I’ve heard complaining daily about how depressing the weather has made them then I have the solution.
Head over to Turtle Ally and drown your crappy weather induced misery in some decadent chocolate treats hand made by Hallie Baker.

Last Friday Scott Pytlik from the Gloucester Daily Times emailed asking if I was interested in writing a piece about CapeAnnBeerandBlog. he had pitched the idea to editor Ray Lamont and once Ray green lighted it I hammered out the basics.
Scott asked if I could also try to explain the differences between bloggers, message board posters, and online commenting for less web savvy folks.
The first few meet-ups we had at Cape Ann Brewing were great and I’m looking forward to getting more folks involved to collaborate and help each other out over cold adult beverages. 🙂
