NECN’s weatherman Matt Noyes has a blog in which he posts sky scene pictures. Over the past few weeks he has used a bunch of GMG photos from my Gloucester At Dawn series on NECN.
Check out his site by clicking the picture-
You can see a few others that were on his sky scenes television segment on NECN here, here, here ,here, here and here .
Here is one of the pages where they replay the NECN skyscenes video in which they highlight a pic of the fishermen’s wives statue.

At the Cape Ann Beer and Blog meet-up at Cape Ann Brewing Kalesy rolled up carrying this bag made from seatbelts. How bad ass is that when you think about it? You gotta figure this thing can take a beating if it’s made from seatbelts. After googling it I found the website of Harveys Seatbelt Bags
I love companies that embrace social media and Harveys site is a prime example. They actually have a Blog called SeatbeltBlog, check it out.

Yesterday Pablo showed up with this horseshoe crab. I’m not exactly sure if they are endangered or not so I took a couple pictures, a short video and tossed it in the ocean.
Then I came in the office and found this fascinating site dedicated to the creature- http://horseshoecrab.org/
You must check out the wonderful work of Judith Robinson-Cox. Her photo galleries of The Paint Factory, The Water of Cape Ann, Lillipution Landscapes and Boatyards are just fantastic.

Here is the WRKO page of Tom and Todd where you can listen to his show streaming live
This morning I had a candid interview with Todd Feinburg, half of the WRKO morning team of former speaker of the house Tom Finneran & Todd Feinburg. Check back at 8PM for the video interview

Brenda Malloy sent me the link to Larry Dahlmer’s website-
From the site-
Recollections of my life on the island and the heritage of the fishing industry from the days of Champlain, through my art.
Dedicated to the growing family tree of Dahlmer’s, and motivated with the idea of capturing the essence of what fishing “out of Gloucester” has meant for the last 400 years.
Grandfather John Dahlmer brought the newly-launched Margaret D. to Gloucester from Charlevoix, Michigan in 1911.
He, brother Lawrence and son Ronald sailed her along the same route that had brought many new families from the Lakes to Gloucester the previous year.
The hundredth anniversary approaches, Gloucester changes, as the world. In the coming years I will show a reflection of what has passed in just a couple of generations.

Jon Conant from TheHiveCapeAnn and Everlution Forms brought a pile of these Hive Stickers to The Blogapalooza Event/Cape Ann Beer and Blog. Click this text for more info on how you can get a free Hive Cape Ann Sticka!

Jay swung by the dock and took me for a quick ride through Smith Cove (Rocky Neck) past the North Shore Art Association, Beacon Marine, and all the way around past the restaurants, boats and Marine Railway. Jay has a bad ass 300mm zoom lens and it was fun fooling around with that for a bit. I have major lens/camera envy. I take pretty decent photographs but can only imagine how much better they could be with a good camera like Jays.
I made a three part video series which will debut tonight at 8PM

Ron Gilson-
While many activists base their efforts on a fishing industry “comeback”, the reality is it isn’t going to happen. “Comeback”, meaning hundreds of meaningful shore side processing jobs, hundreds of new career fisherman on hopefully hundreds of boats….anything resembling the 1940s and ‘50s, is simply out of the question. Still there are those holding out hope for a return to the deluge volume of the early ‘50s! Dr. Carmine Gorga has publicly stated his only hope is “will we be ready….”
Since 1950, our once anchor industry has been on a downward spiral. There are many citizens of Gloucester who point to declining fish landings, being the result of governmental regulations, and a lack of resource compared to the industry heydays of the ‘40s and ‘50s. That is all true; however, there are even deeper reasons for Gloucester’s industry demise. I realize that over fishing and over regulation are often thought of as the main cause of our industry failing, however, I believe “change” in our society is the principle culprit.
