Do You Have Your Fiesta Whites Ready For Fiesta Sunday?
The clock is ticking…Only 7 shopping days left to purchase your Fiesta Whites”!
For generations it’s been customary to wear “White” clothing on Fiesta Sunday. As far back as l I can remember during the weeks leading up to fiesta in early June, our mother Pat, aunts, and grandmothers on both our paternal and maternal sides of our family shopped for Fiesta White clothing, for the entire family. They were not alone. Our entire Fishing Community was out shopping for white clothing. The Big question around town was “Do You Have Your Fiesta Whites and Wardrobe Yet?” Growing up the streets of downtown Gloucester on Fiesta Sunday looked like a sea of white. Last night while leaving the St. Peter Novena, I overheard a group of women talking about how they had their families, children and grandchildren’s “Fiesta Whites” all ready for next Sunday, along with their traditional Nautical theme outfits for Fiesta Saturday’s Races, on Pavilion Beach. I love that today this customary tradition continues!
I look forward to capturing everyone again this year in their “Fiesta Whites” & Nautical Theme clothing at next Saturday Races and Sunday Parade…Get shopping, and smile for the camera!

Walt Kelly Quote of the Week from Greg Bover
“I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.”
— Pogo, comic strip by Walt Kelly (1913-1973)
Kelly grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut and began his newspaper career there before moving to California in pursuit of his future wife. He was one of more than 1500 animators working for Walt Disney in 1941 when that group went on strike. Kelly subsequently moved back east and began work for Dell Comics, eventually creating the strip “Pogo.”
The strip was the forerunner of later politically barbed comics such as “Doonesbury.” Kelly is cited as an influence by cartoonists as diverse as Bill Watterson and R. Crumb.

The Five Retail Doors of the Cape Ann Tool Company
It has been decades since the ring of the 100 ton drop forge has been heard at the Cape Ann Tool Company. It took most of 2013 to get the smokestack down. Now it is time to dream about what will go behind the five doors.
My wish list:
1) A restaurant: Northern India plus Seafood. Greg Bover wants it named “The Tan Dory”. Or Mexican Seafood. “The Pigeon Cove Taco”. This will include a bar which does not require ordering a Cove Burger in order to be served a Fisherman’s IPA.
2) Coffee Shop and Bakery: fresh coffee and a bagel. Opens at 6 AM and imports Brother’s Brew Butternut Crunch Doughnuts.
3) Village Market: loaf of bread, butter, potatoes, onions, six pack of beer, Cape Pond Ice, scratch tickets, Allen’s Coffee Brandy.
4) Tackle Shop: bait, rods to rent for kids to catch a flounder behind the store, T-Shirts from Cape Pond Ice.
5) Art Studio: Art CO-OP, all media, pottery, ceramics, Rockport Art Association North Colony.
What’s on your wish list? A fresh seafood market? In-N-Out Burger? Uniqlo?
