On Thursday, Patrick Thorpe, President of the Gloucester Rotary was on hand with fellow Rotarians to present Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation with a check for $1,000. The Gloucester Rotary donated the funds to aid in the renovation of the living room for the short term residents.
Seacoast Executive Director, Stephen Doyle accepted the donation, and expressed his and the staff’s gratitude in allowing Seacoast to improve the stay of their patients.

Gloucester Bingo Come downtown, support our local small businesses and have a bit of fun. You may have heard that Boston created “Boston Bingo” as a means to jump start their local economy…well, we are having some fun with “Go Fish/Gloucester”! We thought this could be a great promotion for Gloucester too and we would love for you to participate with us. We are creating a “bingo” sheet with 20 or so general categories where one or more blocks could be satisfied by shopping/dining in your business. An example of a few categories are:
- Snag a sparkly piece of jewelry
- Upcycle something (buy something used)
- Enjoy a drink with a friend
- Grab a sweet treat, pastry or cookie
- Visit a downtown bookstore
- Buy a Glosta themed Tshirt or item
- Purchase a Mother’s Day gift
- Ahoy! Buy something nautical
The plan is for this promotion to run from April 22 through May 22 . On April 22 there will be 6,500 inserts in the Gloucester Daily Times and we are planning a media/social media blitz to get the word out. Once complete there will be a few locations to drop off their bingo sheet and be entered in two different raffles. A winning card will enter players in a raffle with prizes such as having lunch with Mayor Sefatia, a trip for two on the Ardelle, a Maritime Gloucester membership and we are working on other prizes from local businesses. If you would like to donate a prize, please let us know. Submitting a card with one line completed in any direction counts as one entry into a raffle, while a card that is completely filled out will see the player entered into the grand prize raffle. Winners drawn from the raffle will have their choice of all the prizes available at that point with grand prize winners having first pick.
We truly think this is a fun and creative way for engaging our customers and thanking them for supporting their local businesses.

Pentecost Sunday Our Lady of Good Voyage Crowning May 24th 2015
Our Lady of Good Voyage Holy Name Society celebrates Pentecost Sunday with The Crowning. Mr. and Mrs. Mario Fernandes is the 2015m Imperator.
This week they celebrated with Prayer and Rosary, with Father Jim Achadinha. Many volunteers also prepared loaves of Portuguese Sweet Bread (Folar).
Sunday May 24th, 9:30 AM Members and family will meet at the Holy Name Society Hall and escort the Imperator to the Church for a mass at 10:00 AM.
The Crowning Ceremony will follow the mass, at Our Lady of Good Voyage.
Share with the Portuguese Community a Celebration of Faith, Family and Friends this Sunday and also Trinity Sunday.

Throw Yourself to the Wolves
When I did my “Picks” post yesterday I wanted to include a fun event at the one and only Wolf Hollow, but I wasn’t able to confirm until this morning that it is indeed happening. Didn’t want to steer anyone in the wrong direction!
This Sunday, May 24th, Wolf Hollow will be hosting “Family Fun Fest”.
The event takes place from 11:00-3:00 and includes activities such as:
Educational presentations every hour
Children’s games and activities
Pizza from Ipswich House of Pizza
Snow cones from the Kona Shaved-Ice Truck
AND, last but certainly not least, free samples of local brew served up from the Ipswich Ale Brewery. Not for the kiddos though.

Montserrat College of Art and Roger Martin
Professor Ethan Berry leads a discussion about Martin’s influence as a founding member of the school.
GLOUCESTER, Mass. (May 20, 2015) – In conjunction with the special exhibition Bill of Lading: The Art & Poetry of Roger Martin, the Cape Ann Museum presents a conversation with Montserrat College of Art professor Ethan Berry on Saturday, May 30, 2:00 p.m. This program is free for Museum members, Montserrat students and faculty, or with Museum admission.
Bill of Lading explores the art and poetry of Rockport native, Roger Martin (1925-2015). A founder of Montserrat College of Art and a long-time member of its faculty, the town of Rockport’s first Poet Laureate and compiler of three books celebrating the people and poetry of his hometown, and a highly respected graphic artist, illustrator and painter, Roger Martin has long been one of Cape Ann’s most distinguished and creative individuals. Professor Berry will be joined by some of Martin’s former students for this program.
Ethan Berry is a teacher in the printmaking department at Montserrat, as well as Senior Seminar, and has been teaching at the school since 1977. A producer and designer for film, video, and performance events, he is past president of the Board of Directors of the Boston Film/Video Foundation, which was founded in 1976 to provide artists with an organizational support system for the creation of independent film and video. He is also a co-partner in ART ON DEMAND, a consulting group that provides arts programming and design consulting services. His work has been shown at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA; the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston; the University of Massachusetts; the Provincetown Young Artists’ Exhibition; and the Drawing Show at the Mills Gallery in Boston.

Cape Ann Chamber License Plates PSA with MA Senator Bruce Tarr
Launched last year by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, after several years of discussion and several months of design competition; the plate beautifully and symbolically portraits the four Cape Ann communities of Essex, Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Rockport. We need 1,500 applications, each with a $40 payment to the Mass. DOT, for the registry to make the plates – we are already over 1/3 of the way there! Cape Ann Fishermunn track team Competed In Their First Special Olympic Qualifying Games!
On Sunday May 17th the Cape Ann Fishermunn track team (named in honor of Jim Munn) competed in their first Special Olympic Qualifying games at Milton Academy. Thirteen athletes competed in a total of thirty-four events and earned twenty-three Gold medals, three Silver, and one Bronze. Every athlete won at least one gold in their individual event entitling them to compete against other gold medalists in the State Games at Harvard Stadium this June
