The D.E.S. Portuguese Club celebrates the Feast of the Holy Spirit it is a 700 year old tradition celebrated by the Portuguese people, and has been celebrated at Our Lady of Good Voyage since 1902.
Scheduled events at the DES Portuguese Club at 133 Prospect Street
Thursday June 13th at 6:30 PM – Rosary
Friday June 14th at 6:30 PM – Singing of the Rosary
Saturday June 15th at 5:30 PM the Rosary followed by a Mass
Sunday June 16th at 9:00 AM the procession will start from the DES Club and return to celebrate the Mass at 11:45 AM

The Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Good Voyage celebrates the Feast of The Holy Spirit and honors Father Eugene Alves this Sunday June 9th, his niece Anita McCarthy and nephew Mark Davis will stand in his memory, as the 2019 Mordomos.
Reverend Eugene Loring Alves, 87, former Pastor of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church passed away peacefully on February 8, 2019.
Our Lady of Good Voyage’s Holy Name Society Celebrates the Feast of the Holy Spirit
The Feast of the Holy Spirit is a 700 year old tradition celebrated by the Portuguese people, and has been celebrated at Our Lady of Good Voyage since 1902.
Mr. and Mrs Celestino Goulart are the 2018 Mordomos
This week the parishioners’ of Our Lady of Good Voyage have been attending the Rosary and Mass at the Youth Center led by Mr and Mrs Goulart and Father “Jim” Achadinha.
Sunday May 20th the procession starts at 11:15 at the Youth Center and will proceed to Our Lady of Good Voyage Church for a mass at 11:45. Mr and Mrs Goulart invite all to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Sprit.
2016 DES Crowning-individuals
The Crowning (Coronation) concludes the principal religious ceremonies and involves the placement of the silver crown on the head of the individuals. Each person crowned has a personal reason or a promise they made to God.
Manuel and Alexandria Nunes, the Mordomos for this year, also celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, and received blessing by Father Jim Achadinha.

Manuel and Alexandrina are the 2016 Mordomos for the DES Crowning Celebration.
They are also are sharing their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
The Crowning will be on Trinity Sunday May 22nd, Mass will be held at 11:45 at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church.

DES Crowning–Celebrate with “Sopas”
Father “jim” Achadinha and Father Gene Alves and the Portuguese community commemoration of 13th Century Queen Isabella, who fed the soup to the starving peasants after the famine. The soup consists of Cabbage, beef and a tasty stew like sauce over bread.
For me it’s all about the juices, which has a hint of mint.
DES Crowning–The Procession to Church
The procession started at the DES Portuguese Club to Mr. and Mrs. Jose Diaz Ferreira (The 2015 Mordomo), and back to the church where Father “Jim” Achadinha , joined the procession up Portuguese Hill. The neighbor pronominally Portuguese, they appreciated Father “Jim’s” participation in the procession waving and coming out to greet the procession of the Holy Ghost. The rain held off until everyone reached Our Lady of Good Voyage, the rain stopped briefly after the Holy Mass, and the procession headed towards the DES club to celebrate the Holy Ghost’s Traditional “Sopas” (Portuguese soup).
Below is a slide show of the Procession and the many who participated. Two colors are used in conjunction with the feast: RED and WHITE. Red symbolizes the tongues of fire, the form in which the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles, and white symbolizes peace, purity and divinity.
DES Crowning 2015 Of Individuals
Father “Jim” Achadinha performed the Holy Spirit Mass, and presided of the crowning Ceremonies of Mr. and Mrs. Jose Diaz Ferreira 2015 ‘Mordomo”.
The Crowning of Individuals symbolizes that All are Equal, rich or poor, man or woman; and through the Holy Spirit are connected directly to God. Everyone has a personal reason to be individually crowned.
My mother each year was crowned on Pentecost and Trinity Sunday, each time a personal one. During my brother’s Vietnam Tour she asked for his safe return, I think for me, it was to stay out of trouble. These posts are made in her and my father’s memories.

Friday May 29, Father “Jim” will be leading in the singing of the Rosary in Portuguese; all are invited at 6:30 at the Portuguese Club on Prospect Street.
May 31st Mass will be held on Trinity Sunday at 11:45 at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, the Crowing procession will depart the Portuguese Club at 10:00.

Pentecost Sunday Our Lady of Good Voyage Crowning May 24th 2015
Our Lady of Good Voyage Holy Name Society celebrates Pentecost Sunday with The Crowning. Mr. and Mrs. Mario Fernandes is the 2015m Imperator.
This week they celebrated with Prayer and Rosary, with Father Jim Achadinha. Many volunteers also prepared loaves of Portuguese Sweet Bread (Folar).
Sunday May 24th, 9:30 AM Members and family will meet at the Holy Name Society Hall and escort the Imperator to the Church for a mass at 10:00 AM.
The Crowning Ceremony will follow the mass, at Our Lady of Good Voyage.
