. To fill you in (if you didn’t know), Uber is a mobile app that seamlessly connects riders with drivers at the push of a button.  The technology has taken-off in over 260 cities across the globe (it’s HUGE in Boston!) allowing residents to travel around their communities quickly and efficiently. Driving with Uber is perfect for a those looking for seasonal/temporary work or for folks who need an entrepreneurial full-time opportunity. You can work whenever you want at the push of a button (you’re the boss!) and no previous experience as a driver is necessary.

Uber’s driver partners come from all occupational walks of life ranging from traditional driving and transportation industries to service and creative industries. If you are a designer, artist, entrepreneur, fisherman, or in between jobs and need flexibility, you should try driving with Uber to supplement your income. Partners in Boston are making up to $35/hour ($6400/month in fares) and checks are deposited into their bank accounts weekly.

With the summer demand just around the corner, there will be huge opportunities to make some more money during our summer festivals!

  1. I am definitely not an expert, but I do use Uber pretty frequently and have over the last four years, in Boston & Cambridge. About once or twice a week now. For the most part, I love it. Easy, reliable and affordable (at least when there’s no surge pricing during snow, rain, holiday). Would be great to see it come to Cape Ann. With enough drivers I think it could work really well, to-from train station, at night for the bars, train-to-beach, etc.

No, you don’t HAVE to be nice to the customers. But, you do have to maintain a good rating to continue to work for Uber. Too many low ratings and they cut you off the app. The best ratings go to drivers with clean, newer cars that are polite and friendly. The bad ratings are for drivers with dirty cars, loud and/or obnoxious music, eating while driving and those that won’t stop talking. The music thing is a real deal breaker on the rating for me. One reason I stopped taking cabs is I don’t want to be held captive to sports radio, talk radio, hip hop, classical russian music. And the dirty cars being driven by guys who drive like cabbies? Yep, off work cab drivers!

    1. I suspect local cab companies may be impacted negatively. I also suspect local people who are eligible will make a lot of money. From what I understand say a displaced fisherman who has an OK car can not only make money in Gloucester, but they can drive into Boston and make money and bring that bacon back home.
