Compass Rose Dedication Ceremony Photos

Anthony Marks submits-

On Saturday October 12,2013 a dedication ceremony was held at Maritime Gloucester 23 Harbor Loop to dedicate the beautiful Compass Rose that was installed over the summer. The Compass Rose was donated by Matthew Collins. The artist was Mark Read. They both spoke as well as Tom Balf Executive Director of Maritime Gloucester, state and city officials. A reception was held following the ceremony. Music was provided by Michael O’Leary and friends. A good time was had by all. The event was well attended.

Compass Rose at Maritime Gloucester

Hi Joey-

I wanted to let everyone know that the installation of the Compass Rose sculpture (pictured here with the Sculptor himself, Mark Read) is complete. It is located at the front of Maritime Gloucester and is a beautiful sight to behold, especially at night when it is lit!

Manchester Essex Varsity Soccer Columbus Day

The Hornets played the Lynnfield Pioneers to a 0-0 tie at Hyland Field in Manchester Monday October 14, 2013.  Lots of chances with one incredible shot bouncing off the crossbar, the ground and a few other things but not getting in the net!

Bittersweet

grand finale mug up 2013

We had a wonderful grand finale Mug Up at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery on Sunday. The weather was perfect, and fun was had by all, from the youngest to the oldest.   As always, there was plenty of good stuff to eat, but the definite showstopper was Sister Felicia’s cranberry orange tort – scrumptous!

It was a little bittersweet.  Season has ended, the gallery is closed, and winter is around the corner.  But don’t fear, there will be more Mug Up fun over the winter as hosts James Eves at Cape Ann Giclee, Fred Bodin, Donna Ardizonni and others take up the mantle and keep the tradition alive through the dark, cold winter months.   Maybe Joey will even have another one at the dock!

Representing from Cincinnati, Ohio

Two very fun folks. On the left is Heather Chalk, who works at the Mt. Adams Bar & Grill, which was the first bar in Ohio to obtain a liquor license in Ohio after Prohibition. The establishment has a very interesting history: http://www.mtadamsbarandgrill.com/history_bg.htm. On the right is is Ed Gollar, also of Cincinnati, who manages a company, and ironically sells a keychain device, which will measure your blood/alcohol content. You can see it at breathkey.com. Do you think they met in the bar?

Early that same morning I had taken Rosie for her morning walk. The sunlight streaming sideways through the fog shrouded trees was gorgeous and our hood had a new look for the day; the North Shore Art Association had become Crosby Lyons Club and the parking lot was filled with vintage cars from the 1970s and 1980s .
