Is There A Solution?

mug up and RD hostage taking end

Come to Mup Up on Saturday at 9:30 at YUPO Gallery and Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck Ave. to witness the solution to the Rubber Duck Hostage taking drama. The hostage takers have promised to return RD to Paul this weekend – let’s see if they are good to their word. Always fun, always good coffee, food, GMG peeps, fobs and passersby that we drag in to join us. The end is very near.

GMG Mug Up at Madfish Wharf and Rocky Neck Art Walk

With many people being in the midst of back to school madness, we have decided to put off the food competition until after Labor Day, but still come by for Mug Up, Saturday at 9:30am on Madfish Wharf and then enjoy some of the great Rocky Neck art and artists by taking the Rocky Neck Art Walk.

Hobbit House II

Thanks to one of those unexpected miracles of the Universe manifested through dear friend, Alma McLaughlin, I have been given a great gallery space for the remainder of the season back on Madfish Wharf. Hobbit House II (aka Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery), located at 77 Rocky Neck Ave., Gallery 6, is a beautiful gallery overlooking Smiths Cove with great light and energy. The gallery features the works of Joey C., Donna Ardizzoni, Len Burgess, Tom Nihan, Linda Sodja, Judy Wilburn, Belle & Me, Kathy Chapman, and of course, me.

In collaboration with Regina Piantedosi at YUPO Gallery, G4, we are resuming the fun tradition of weekly GMG Mug Ups at Madfish Wharf, now being held weekly on Saturdays at 9:30am so Joey can come, followed at 11:00 by the Rocky Neck Art Walk.

GMG Mug Up Food Competition – Call to all you Great Foodies Out There

mug up and food competition

Now that we have re-established the GMG Mug Up tradition on Saturday mornings at 9:30 on Madfish Wharf (so our fearless leader Joey can be there!), it is time for one of our famous and fun GMG Food Competitions. Over the years, we have had many different types food competitions, and we want to come up with something that the awesome cooks / bakers out there in GMG land will clamor to be a part of. Joey wants it to be a cupcake competition (he is going to be one of the judges with his girls as assistants, along with James Eves and Richard Rosenfeld). Cupcakes are great, but we wanted to let those of you who would like to enter and have the chance of winning a coveted GMG food competition winner ribbon, and go down in annals of GMG history as the best at whatever it is you make really well, tell us what you would like the competition to be.

Please reply by commenting on this post if you are interested in being a contender, and what food you would like the competition to be. Majority will rule. There is no real prep area, so it has to be something you can bring in prepared and ready to go to the judges (with a little extra for Mug Up attendees to try). Don’t include a beverage. If Bob Ryan is game to sponsor another Bloody Mary or other beverage competition made with a Ryan & Wood Distilleries spirit, we’ll do that later in the season.

Madfish Wharf is hopping this summer. Saturday morning 9:30am come for GMG Mug Up and food competition at YUPO Gallery / Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery. Come hang with your favorite GMG peeps, fobs and Rocky Neck artists and neighbors on beautiful Madfish Wharf. Saturday, August 23rd will be our first GMG Food Competition of the season. Let’s get some rockin GMG peep/fob summer fun going while we still can.

Bittersweet

grand finale mug up 2013

We had a wonderful grand finale Mug Up at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery on Sunday. The weather was perfect, and fun was had by all, from the youngest to the oldest.   As always, there was plenty of good stuff to eat, but the definite showstopper was Sister Felicia’s cranberry orange tort – scrumptous!

It was a little bittersweet.  Season has ended, the gallery is closed, and winter is around the corner.  But don’t fear, there will be more Mug Up fun over the winter as hosts James Eves at Cape Ann Giclee, Fred Bodin, Donna Ardizonni and others take up the mantle and keep the tradition alive through the dark, cold winter months.   Maybe Joey will even have another one at the dock!
