  1. Sailors entering Gloucester know all too well that the breeze often dies as they arrive at the paint factory. Now the city, to make the inner harbor more sail-friendly, has worked out an agreement with the owners to power up the windmill with juice from the grid and reverse the blade pitch when the breeze falls below six knots. The breeze can be activated with an I-phone app (soon to be available for android phones) and there will, of course, be a charge to the user’s I-Tunes or Google Play account, Schooners are excepted from any charges.

    Feeble breezes during the Gloucester Schooner Festival have been a real problem from time to time over the years. This revolutionary new technology, brought to us by the mayor’s office, will surely breathe new life into the event.
