Sassy Eco Bags

Sassy Eco Bags are uniquely designed handbags, purses and totes.  Each bag has been handcrafted from discarded coffee or tea bags from area coffee houses.  By rescuing these materials and reusing them, they are kept away from dumps and landfills.  The materials used in each bag are durable as well as attractively functional.  I hope you enjoy the bag.

Feel free to feel good about helping the Earth and looking Sassy at the same time.

I am going away for a spiritual retreat for the week, so if you are a person of faith, please keep me in your prayers!  My posts in my absence are a series of photos from the street bazaar.

Upcycled Chairs

Friends Polly Hickey and Cheryl Davis have come up with a great idea – finding cast-off chairs on the side of the road, cleaning them up, and selling them at a reasonable price at the Farmer’s Market here in Gloucester on Thursdays. Their business, Upcycled Chairs, has already gained popularity at the Market. Several have been sold. Instead of being discarded in the trash, these chairs will have a new life. Very cool!

Bikefixed

Thanks to Big Mike’s Bike Shop and Beardman McBikeshaman (I believe that’s what he said his name was) I am back to terrorizing the potholed streets of our beloved burg. It should be noted that the bike was fixed within hours and it cost me less than buying the same parts on Amazon, and I would have had to spend time putting them all together and then bolting them onto the bike. And he oiled my brakes.

I think he might have also mentioned that he’d dipped the removable components into a vat containing active cultures of the deadly ebola virus. I was kinda distracted looking at all the cool bikes and parts they had in there, but I think he said that. Or that he’d rigged the bike with semtex plastic explosive and would detonate if tampered with. Or maybe they are having a sale on helmets. Something along those lines.

Anyhow, Big Mike’s did me solid. Thanks guys.

Jim

Ribbon Cutting Event From Fred Bodin

Fred Bodin writes-

Yesterday I closed the gallery for the 1 pm ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new Gloucester HarborWalk at Saint Peter’s Park, as I had contributed several of my photos to multimedia content accessed on it by QR codes. It was very hot in the sun, and I knew it would be while with so many dignitaries’ speeches. The speakers to the left of our Mayor Carloline Kirk, who’s at the podium, are looking pretty wilted – earning their money, I guess. Left to Right: Carolyn Kirk, Mayor of the City of Gloucester; Tim Murray, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, State Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante, HarborWalk Cambridge 7 architect, and city volunteer Lise Breen.

Joey,
Boston.com is holding a contest for Best Beach in Massachusetts. Out of 64 beaches that started, Gloucester’s Good Harbor Beach has made it all the way to the final four.
The contest includes this description of Good Harbor: “A local favorite due to its white sand, great surf and stunning views.” ‘Xactly!
The other three finalists are nice beaches, too (if you like sharks and greenheads.)
Who ya got?
Let’s make clear to Boston.com readers what we already know: Good Harbor is the best beach in Massachusetts, hands down.
Vote here<http://www.boston.com/travel/explorene/specials/summer/special/beach_bonanza_new_england/> for Good Harbor.
Voting ends today.
