ART HAVEN BUOY PAINTING AND WINTER WORKSHOPS December 10th!

DSC_1426

The lobster trap tree is up once again and it needs to be decorated! Art Haven is once again offering a free day of buoy painting on December 10th from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Children and teens of all ages are welcome to visit the 180B Main Street studio space in Gloucester to create their own original painted buoy ornament for this year’s community tree. The tree will then be lit with all of its festive décor at 5:00pm on Saturday as a culmination of the Middle Street Walk events happening all day.

Also for the fourth year, everyone is welcome to participate in creating a giant ice sculpture in front of Art Haven from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday the 10th. All of these activities are made possible by generous donations from Cape Pond Ice, Ben’s Paint, Winchester Fishing and Rose’s Marine.

“We are so thankful to have been able to start a new holiday tradition for the community,” says Art Haven Director Dawn Gadow. “It’s great to see the kids faces as the lights go on around their beautiful buoy creations on the tree! Things like that start teaching them at a young age what it means to be a part of the Cape Ann community.”

The day is becoming even more of a community effort this year, as Project Uplift will also have a presence at the tree lighting and buoy painting day. Santa will be collecting toys, clothes and gift cards for Action Inc.’s Project Uplift program throughout the day and tree lighting, so you can bring a toy to help out another family this holiday season. In addition, the winner of this year’s downtown shopping spree will also be drawn at this year’s tree lighting ceremony.

In addition to this annual event, Art Haven is offering a series of afterschool workshops over the next two weeks in a variety of things, including wreath and ornament making, a clay day, jewelry making, and other Christmas present friendly creative projects. All of these classes run from 3:30-5:00pm.

“Workshops are a great way for us to try out fun and different things,” says Gadow. “And this time of year, it’s also a great way to finish up their Christmas list with a handcrafted present.”

There are small class fees charged for these workshops, but financial assistance is available if needed. For more information visit www.arthaven.org, call Art Haven at (978) 283-3888 or email arthaveninfo@gmail.com.

A project to benefit The Open Door Food Pantry

Hi Joey,

I wanted to personally share with you my business, ENNIS Inc’s holiday video. I created this as a way to benefit the Open Door food pantry in Gloucester. As a resident of Gloucester and a business owner, I wanted to use this year’s holiday greeting to bring awareness to the wonderful work the Open Door does for the community.

ENNIS represents Food Stylists, Wardrobe Stylists, Prop Stylists, Makeup and Hair Artists from Boston, NY, and LA.  We pulled together a group from Boston and NY to gather at my home in Gloucester and prepare meat and fruit pies, which we then delivered and served at the Open Door food pantry that same evening.

Tripp Clemens from Windpowered Productions shot the whole process for us. It was a fun and rewarding experience. We hope to do more in the future and motivate others to use their resources to do the same.

Today Is A Great Day To Check Out All The Gloucester Webcams With The Coastal Storm

You really ought to bookmark it, there are so many cool Gloucester Vistas to view!

Old Sloop Coffeehouse

Hi Joey,
I enjoy reading your blog.  Thank you for this service to the community!
I help to run Old Sloop Coffeehouse at the First Congregational Church of Rockport.  We have two concerts this Saturday, December 10, that I thought might warrant a mention.
At 10:30 AM, there will be a children’s concert featuring Debbie and Friends.  Debbie and Friends contributed a song to an anti-bullying CD that was just nominated for a Grammy.  "Debbie" is former West Parish Elementary School teacher Debbie Cavalier, now Dean of Continuing Education at Berklee College of Music.  Also in the band is Gloucester resident Rory McKenzie on bass.
At 7:30 PM, there will be a second concert featuring Carolann Solebello, best know as a founding member of female trio Red Molly, who are local favorites.  Carolann will appear on Live at Noon on WUMB radio with Dave Palmater Friday, December 9.
Thank you!
