  1. I haven’t had enough time to attend local events lately. I was thinking of heading into Essex for this. But the thought of the headache of finding a parking space kept me away. I figured I just wait for GMG to cover it. Great job Marty! Thanks for bringing me there.

  2. I had Barbara drop me off within walking distance. It was quite a crowd. There was a good deal of emotion when ARDELLE finally splashed down. Many of us realized that this might be the last opportunity to witness the launching of a wooden, traditionally built Cape Ann schooner. I felt privileged to be there.
Harold Burnham and his largely volunteer crew deserves our deepest thanks. Because of their talent, dedication, energy and skill another generation will better understand the history and spirit of his extraordinary piece of America.

  3. These photos are awesome! Makes me feel better about arriving 20 minutes late (stuck in traffic!) 😦 Still, very glad I attended this event — it was very “moving” (truly). Congratulations to all involved. A beautiful vessel and great accomplishment. And a swell party 🙂 !

  4. My dad recorded a similar launching, down the same ways, circa 1948. Bigger boat; Story Shipyard; same happy crowds. Peter Burkhard – native, now in Florida.

  5. Great photos Marty. If you could speed up the slide show, it would look like one of those old time motion pictures and be really cool.
