submission from Robin at NeedyMeds

Here’s
an update on the NeedyMeds drug discount card…
After
6 months in operation, we reported that our joint project with The
Gloucester Fund – The Gloucester Fund Drug Discount Card – saved
Cape Ann residents over $36,000 on their prescription medicines.
Nationwide, over $1.5 million was saved by users of our drug discount
card in the last year. More and more people with insurance are
finding that the card gives them a better price than their insurance.
Let us know if you have found this to be true. Contact
robin@needymeds.org or visit
our Facebook to let us know. To obtain a card, go to our website at
http://www.needymeds.org to print
out a card, or send a SASE to NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card, PO Box
219, Gloucester, MA 01931.

Ice Cream! It’s a Snack-tivity!

One of my favorite summer snack-tivities is getting ice cream at Harbor’s Point Ice Cream and snacking while walking along the boulevard toward Blyman Canal to see the bridge open (what an awesome thing about Gloucester!) and watch the boats. I always usually see a cormorant fishing too…

Susan Beaudette

Susan Beaudette, the owner, who gives me new ice cream with a smile when I immediately flop it onto the floor. I love that they do kiddie size too, which really is enough for me to split with my wee son. Enough is an important concept when it comes to ice cream.

Menu bits… there’s more, yogurt, and candy, but I didn’t take photos of everything:

Things To Do- Celebration Of The Sea Event June 5th

Hi  Joey,
I’m a subscriber to your blog, Good Morning Gloucester. It’s great; it must be quite a labor of love.
I thought you’d be interested in giving your readers a heads-up about an upcoming Gloucester event – the Celebration of the Sea Festival on June 5.
Here’s some information about the Celebration of the Sea Festival:
WHAT: A free, family-friendly festival by the glorious Gloucester seaside
WHERE: Across from Niles Beach, on the grounds of Eastern Point Day School
WHEN: Saturday, June 5th, 2010 from 10:00am – 4:00pm
WHY? A delight for all ages!
What to expect: You’ll see great local artwork at our Ports of Call, meet local authors Pat Lowery Collins and Christine Jones, hear tale telling and music playing pirates from Moonship Productions and the sea chantey singers of Three Sheets to the Wind.
Learn and have fun with activities from regional museums. Explore live tidepool animals. Art Haven will lead a collaborative effort to recycle an old sail into a work of art.
Visit Pirates’ Cove for children’s games, balloon art, elaborate face painting, and to stir the imagination. Participate in a costumed parade lead by giant puppets.
And of course…enjoy tasty gourmet treats.
I’ve attached the flyer that is being posted around town.
Also, here’s a link to our blog about the festival: http://easternpointdayschool.wordpress.com/celebration-of-the-sea/
It should be a great day for everyone – young and old – especially if the sun shines!
Thanks,
Kate

John Todd And The Mighty Tir Na Nog

John Todd lobsters on the Tir Na Nog.  It’s a tiny boat that rolls around like an empty chlorox bottle being tossed around in the sea but John get’s it done aboard the Mighty Tir Na Nog nonetheless.  Everything aboard the Tir na Nog is tiny except for the skipper- John Todd.  I’m not exactly sure how he fits in the pilot house of the boat, being hunched over all day doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun.

The meaning of Tir na nÓg is "Land of Eternal Youth." From an old Irish legend, Tir na nÓg was a mythical island off Ireland’s West Coast where its inhabitants remained forever young.
