Downtown Block Party #2 Info

We cleared the first step with the liquor licensing board last night with a 3-0 yes vote pending  City Counsel giving their blessing.

If approved by City Counsel it will include another block, from  Pleasant Street intersection down through the West End.

We will have 5 different slideshow/movies.  Dun, and Jim B will be featured along with the work of Mark Teiwes, and a presentation by Chad Carlberg from Bait and Tackle Productions. (I may have a short movie in there as well)

I’ll let you know more as the info comes in.

  1. Last block party was very nice, but more seating, and more choices for food and drink are needed, If you didn’t actually dine at a restaurant for dinner, there was little or no choice to buy a coffee and or pastry to just sit and enjoy festivities. Lots of black spots with nothing in between, from center St. to west end. seemed to be a lack of local business involvement. It was fun all in all, and this is just a suggestion.

  2. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think after the success of the first Block Party that more of those West End Shops that closed down will be open. We are also going to circulate a sheet of suggestions for the shop owners which involve lighting and decorating the windows.

As far as seating is concerned, if you know a shop owner ask if you could drop off some chairs early in the day. I doubt we can provide chairs for everyone as our budget consisted of one sponsor that donated money for banners and another that paid for the flyers for the last one.

Our mantra when planning has been Fun, Simple and Free and we are trying to not let the thing grow into a big taxing event and rather let the stores and restaurants of our beautiful downtown be the stars.

We are also working on getting a non-profit to open a food place for the folks walking around but not dining at the restaurants.

  5. First off thanks but I always try to acknowledge Jackie Hardy, Janice Lufkin Shea and The Van Ness’ Peter and Vickie. We worked well as a group.

The next one has to pass City Council which I expect it to, but you never know. We don’t want to officially announce it in respect to the council.

The night of October 11th would be a good bet to plan something though with a rain date of October 18th.

We have a meeting tomorrow night so I’ll have a fresh update on Friday morning.
