SCHOONER LANNON ON A GLORIOUS SUNSET SAIL
In addition to sunset sails, did you know the Lannon also offers Moon-gazing sails!?!
Winner of the Best of North Shore “Best Charter Boat” for the past three years in a row, and it’s no wonder ❤
Visit the Schooner Lannon’s website for a complete list of sailing adventures–
Picture yourself relaxing on the deck of this beautiful 65- foot schooner as she sails out of Gloucester harbor on a light southwesterly breeze.
Join us for a two hour sail and get a taste for what it was like to sail on a fishing schooner a hundred years ago. Help the crew raise the sails, or just sit back and take in the sights and sounds of Gloucester’s coastline.
Some of our weekend public sails feature music. We offer group rates. And we specialize in private charters for weddings, corporate entertainment, teambuilding, birthdays and more. The Lannon is a great place for a party!

A scholarship fund to benefit local students of the tourism and hospitality industry has been set up in memory of Kay Ellis, who worked diligently for many years on many tourism ideas and issues and helped elevate Gloucester as a tourism destination. She loved the maritime and hospitality business and she put her heart and soul into it, working with the Chamber of Commerce and Discover Gloucester, all the while promoting Schooner Lannon. We hope to share her vision through the scholarships.

SCHOONER LANNON SAILING BY THE GREASY POLE
DON’T MISS THE FALL ISSUE OF CAPE ANN MAGAZINE!
Don’t miss the current issue of Cape Ann magazine featuring a terrific article about the Schooner Lannon and Captains Heath and Tom Ellis (and Polly Five Toes!), written by Terry Date. There’s also a great read about the Straitsmouth Savages and their restoration efforts to reclaim Straitsmouth Island, written by Mary Markos, with photos by Desi Smith. Our issue arrived this morning and I have yet to read all, but am looking forward to reading from cover to cover.

Joseph Prezioso action photos for the Boston Herald | Captain Harold Burnham, Schooner Ardelle, Stage Fort Park spectators
ed. note: Another try. I am re-posting as I had some technical difficulties uploading content and scheduling remotely from Boston yesterday.
On assignment “Gloucester Glows for Parade of Sail”: photographer Joseph Prezioso captivating coverage of the 2017 Gloucester Schooner Festival heralded a full color spread in the Boston Herald newspaper yesterday. Prezioso anchored his point of view from the Schooner Ardelle, embedded in the Parade of Sails action.
These photos are crisp and clear in the digital publication and there are more photographs of Captain Harold Burnham, the crew, Schooner Ardelle, Schooner American Eagle, Schooner Fame, Schooner Thomas E Lannon, and Stage Fort Park spectators.
TRAILS AND SAILS – THE SAILS
THREE SCHOONERS IN ONE!
WELCOME SCHOONERS!!
What a treat to tag along with Gloucester’s own Schooner Festival welcoming committee Brett Ramsey and his sons Max and Nick. Each year Brett purchases and assembles baskets of fresh fruit. Along with loaves of yummy bread still warm from Virgilio’s ovens (donated by Joe Virgilio), Brett and his family welcome each and every participating schooner. You could tell that the recipients were really grateful and touched by the gesture.
Special shout out to GMG FOB Schooner Green Dragon’s captain Al Bezanson. I was out filming early this morning and stopped by Rocky Neck Accommodations to say hello to Al and his wife Phyllis. This was Al’s idea to cover the Schooner Fest welcome for GMG, so thank you Al Bezanson!!

Sail on the Schooner Lannon with Celtic Music and a Sunset
Captain Heath Ellis and Michael O’Leary entertain quests on the schooner Thomas E. Lannon with Celtic Music and a brisk sail ending with a great sunset. A great evening.
Snapshots from the Schooner Lannon Cigar and Rum Cruise
The cruise was wonderful fun! Thanks so much to our host Joey, Captains Tom Ellis and Heath Ellis, Bob and Doug Ryan for their fabulous Ryan and Wood rum cocktails, Paul Giacalone for cigars, which although I don’t smoke were throughly enjoyed by guests, and the always awesome Lannon crew!
Bob and Doug Wood ~ Loved the cocktails in coconuts–what a delightful touch!
My apologies to our friends on the cruise that there are so few photos. This morning when looking at the images I noticed a giant black sploge on every photo–a huge goober on my image sensor. Here’s a few without the sploge after photoshopping out.
Today at Hunt’s photo in Melrose, my go-to place for all camera wants, needs, and crisis, Doug showed me how to professionally clean my image sensor, and its not as scary as you might think!
The Schooner Lannon, Sunset, Buck Moon, Fireworks, Dessert
The Schooner Lannon, Sunset, Buck Moon, Fireworks, and Dessert, you could not ask for anything more!
Dessert was supplied by Sticky Fingers Pastry located at Browns Mall.
Celtic Music on the Thomas E. Lannon – Great Music, Sail, People and Sunset
Captain Tom Ellis took the Thomas E. Lannon out on a glorious sail beyond the breakwater, Celtic singer Michael O’Leary and Friends played music to the delight of everyone on board, many happy faces enjoying the sunset and a welcoming flock of sea gulls as they escorted the Schooner Lannon back home.
BREAKING NEWS: Fly Amero’s touring band, Orleans, welcomes co-founder/songwriter/guitarist John Hall for a 40th Anniversary Concert in honor of Larry Hoppen at NORTH SHORE MUSIC THEATRE ON AUGUST 31
You saw it on GMG FIRST. Just like you heard about the sudden, tragic death of Fly’s longtime friend and band-mate Larry Hoppen last week (see post here).
The next day, Fly demonstrated the healing power of music (see that story here) and on August 31, the healing continues as the show goes on (see details here).
All of us who know Fly are celebrating the band’s commitment to music in honor of their friend and brother by inviting John Hall, who wrote the multi-platinum #1 hits Dance With Me and Still the One to join them for this very special 40th anniversary concert (get tickets here). Here’s a video of John making a special appearance with the band last year.
Now I hope you’re reading this on your phone because that means you’ve taken the day off and are out at the Sidewalk Bazaar and planning to visit the Farmers Market and take in some music this evening. See today’s AMAZING live music lineup here.
(There may even be tickets left to see Fly and Allen Estes on The Lannon at 6:30 — and, finally, the weather looks good. Call 978-281-6634 to find out).
If you’re not on vacation, find an excuse to take tomorrow off
There’s so much going on tomorrow that it’s just not a good day to be at work.
Gloucester’s Sidewalk Bazaar kicks off at 9am and must be better than ever — otherwise why would our boy Joey represent?
Click here to download the complete Sidewalk Bazaar Schedule
The Farmer’s Market starts at 3pm at Stage Fort Park — remember it’s ON, regardless of the weather. And the knife guy (forgot his name) will be there this week. I’m bringing my precious Sabatier French knife that I got in 1974 so he can fix the curve, which I have not been able to maintain properly because I only have a stone, not a grinder. More on that later . . .
At 6:30pm Allen Estes and Fly Amero will be on the Schooner Lannon for a gorgeous Sunset Music Sail. Call 978-281-6634 for tickets. Seeing these two aboard the Lannon is a must. No mics, no amps, no speakers. You know you’re in the presence to world-class musicians when there’s literally nothing between you and the sound of voices and guitars.
For all of you who won’t fit on the Lannon, check out Nights on the Neck, which starts at 5pm. This week you can see singer/songwriter and Noise founder/editor T Max at 8:45.
And of course there’s the Harbor Loop Concert starting at 6:30 — always a good time –and you can bring your kids and watch them dance. If you video your kids dancing (or other kids) put it up on YouTube and paste the link in a comment to this post. We’ll show it to all of Gloucester.
If that’s not enough, six other venues have music of all kinds.
But let’s not forget about tonight! Fly Amero is back from Larry Hoppen’s memorial service and will host the great Inge Berge at Rhumbline. Marina Evans joins Dennis Monagle at Minglewood. Steve Caraway hosts an open mic at Catch 22 …
Whew! I could go on and on. See the complete live music schedule here.
A dozen venues with Live Music Tonight ~ and 2 of them are floating!
Being a waterfront community, you’d expect Cape Ann to have plenty of restaurants, pubs & live music venues on the water — and we do. Tonight we also have two that are IN the water — literally. The Schooner Thomas E. Lannon is hosting a bluegrass sunset sail at 6pm featuring local legend Allen Estes with Gloucester’s best bluegrass musicians and Gloucester’s newest schooner, Ardelle, built by Howard Burnham (who build the Lannon) is hosting a sail at the same time with doo-wop/oldies girl group Honky Tonk Women of Glocuester.
Now, there are plenty of choices for those of you who wish to remain on land, from jazz standards, reggae, rock, funk, soul, motown — you name it. See the full live music lineup here.
Boston Latin Reggae comes to Gloucester tonight
Gloucester’s newest music venue Mile Marker One features one of Boston’s best Latin/Reggae bands Los Sugar Kings tonight at 7pm. With just a little thinking ahead, you can schedule a perfect musical night starting at 5pm with Michael O’Leary and Friends aboard the Schooner Lannon, then on to Mile Marker One, then over to the Dog Bar at 9 to catch the Bandit Kings with Joe Wilkins.
If none of those artists tickles your fancy there are half a dozen others to choose from. See the complete live music lineup here.
