NOTE: Gloucester’s Sea Serpent by History Press tells the story of the sea serpent that came into Gloucester Harbor in August, 1817. Gloucester’s Justice of the Peace Lonson Nash gathered affidavits for a book edited by an ambitious, serious committee composed of Judge John Davis of the Federal District Court in Boston, president of the Linnaean Society of New England, Francis Calley Gray, former diplomat and member of the Massachusetts Bar, and Dr. Jacob Bigelow, M.D., a University of Pennsylvania graduate who taught at the Harvard Medical School. Their book was universally rejected because they concluded that a mutant, rumplebacked black snake found in September, 1817 in a hay-field off of Loblolly Cove in Gloucester (today: Rockport) was the sea serpent’s baby.

Ok, What better day than 10/10/10 to make my first entry into my Sketchbook Project. I picked my favorite place to sit and watch the waterfront work, Nature change by the minute and meditate. This is the view looking straight out from my parking space today. I may add some color to it with Gouache paint. After the Sun went down I walked around and took some photos for GMG of the area at nighttime.

Jazz legend Larry Coryell and renowned guitarists Ken Bonfield and Steve Davison will lead an inspiring tour of the world of American fingerstyle guitar in a benefit for the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts on Nov. 19. “Celebrating the Guitar: A Masters’Showcase” will feature country blues, ragtime and folk, traditional Celtic, jazz and classical pieces in an intimate café-style setting, appealing to fingerstyle guitar aficionados and newcomers alike.
The concert will feature three of the most talented guitarists performing today in a single venue. Coryell, one of the world’s acknowledged guitar masters, has recorded 75 albums over the past 40 years. The New York Times called him “a true pioneer of rock-jazz fusion.” Bonfield, a Gloucester resident who has toured nationally since 1994, was called “one of the best guitarists recording today” by Wind &Wire. Davison, who released his debut “White River Suite” this year, has teamed with Bonfield on the “Artistry of the Guitar” tour around the country.

Hey Vickie,
Could you be more specific with your description? You might be right, but I need more info. Thanks!
It is a close up of the wall of the house, when you stand at Cressey’s Beach and look to your right. John thought the wall was a dam. It is the first house on Western Avenue on the water side. Does that help!

Anyone who knows their way around the North Shore knows that the opening scene from the Amazing Race when host Phil was on the rolling hill was Castle Hill In Ipswich and not Gloucester MA . The rest of the scenes from Eastern Point Yacht Club and Gloucester Harbor were shot in Gloucester but there was no mention of Ipswich in any of the show.
Much like the editing of Survivor, I simply refuse to believe that Jimmy T was angry the whole time he was on the show like they would have you believe by watching it. ANYONE who has been around Jimmy knows he is one of the funniest and warm hearted people you would ever want to meet.
The Mrs always scolds me when I talk about how skeptical I am of the way TV producers try to take you down a certain path in your mind trying to figure out what is going to happen next. my guesses are always opposite of what the producers would have you believe because I feel like they are editing for maximum shock value when the end results are shown. She’s always telling me “Can we just watch the show without all your conspiracy theories?” After watching these two shows, and being fans of both shows for years and now seeing what I know to be true turned on it’s head I think skeptical is the way to go.

The Season kicks off in Gloucester Ma. and generally folks don’t get to see the very beginning of the show until it airs but we got you some insider footage to check out before the season begins on TV. According to the Amazing Race 17 Wikipedia Page “The season premieres on September 26, 2010 with a special 90-minute episode before returning to its regular hour-long format the following week.” The Amazing Race has won an Emmy every year since its creation in 2003 but got knocked off this year by Top Chef.
