Sidewalk Bazaar 2013
Thursdays during the Bazaar are usually very slow, but not this one, as you can see. We’re looking to the west toward the end of Main Street.
Too busy to eat but famished, I escaped to Passports up the street. The owner, Eric, was outside serving up lobster rolls, and late in the day they were reduced to $10 from $12. They’re made Joey C. style, with mayo and no or minimal condiments. There was probably a full lobster in this sandwich, and I apologize for eating 1/4 of it before taking a picture. The willpower is weak when you’re hungry. Passports will have them again tomorrow.
Interesting aside: While struggling to remember the correct phrase for “the willpower is weak,” I considered going into Jalapenos to ask, but that might have been kind of weird. But just then, a couple came into the gallery. It was, I found out, Kay Lazor, a reporter for the Boston Globe, and her husband, who voluntarily helps her with editing (he was an editor for the Boston Herald). They thought “willpower” was good, and corrected my usage of commas. I don’t know them, but I realize I need to brush up on my “AP Stylebook” and “Strunk and White’s Elements of Style.” Life is so interesting, and tomorrow will be a zoo on Main Street and in the gallery. I rush forward to meet it. http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/health/blogs/white-coat-notes/2013/07/30/summer-first-batch-mosquitoes-with-eee-found-amherst/zUCgZIuxPt7kIHdPi5kFRK/blog.html
Tomorrow we’ll be open at 9am. Outside we’ll feature Laura Jardullo (left) of the Dress Code with her feathered hair bands, and I’ll have 50 newly (today) arrived pieces of Dave Matthews’ pottery at discounted prices. Photo taken in front of the gallery.

Hi Joey,
Thanks to GMG, Tricia and I heard about the Main Street Block Party. We arrived with our niece and nephew about 8:30pm. As we approached Main Street, I snapped the attached photo of the new public artwork project on Parsons Street with City Hall in the background. A GMG article stated the artist is James Owen Calderwood. It was a wonderful point of entry onto Main Street which was alive with entertainment, shopping, and dining. We enjoyed appetizers and a drink at LA TRATTORIA & PIZZERIA of the WEST END and then purchased a beautiful piece of artwork (stained glass by local artist Donna Amero) at Local Colors Artists’ Cooperative. Thanks for all the great info on Good Morning Gloucester! Looking forward to picking up my stonewashed GMG Cap next week!
Best regards,
Frank McCall

We DON’T LIVE IN PODUNKVILLE ARKANSAS!!!
WE live in a vibrant active community full of creatives, businesspeople, fishermen, ect, ect, ect.
In my mind THERE’S NO EXCUSE to not have uninterrupted cell service all the way through Main St.
I have Sprint and there was a time when I rarely lost a call but it seems in the past couple months it’s gotten worse.
I believe they are taking comments on what you would like to see happen for downtown.
if you’re like me and think that in the year 2013 we might want to look at getting this shit corrected write in-
City officials will pull common themes from residents’ likes and grievances tonight, then engage in a discussion about those themes and solutions at another meeting Aug. 20, and develop the downtown’s plan for implementing improvements and stepping into the future at a Sept. 17 meeting.

For the life of me I don’t know why they don’t hide a cell service repeater up inside the City Hall Tower like I suggested years ago-

Hi Joey-
I think people may be interested in learning about a beautiful and interesting new shop named Mary Rose Vintage Design, located at 269 Main Street in Gloucester.
My son Evan ( his pictures) and I completely enjoyed ourselves at the grand opening this past Sunday.
Just step through the front door and you will instantly feel just how lovely the owner, Jackie Colussi (pictured here) is by the warmth and heart she has put into the design of her shop.
You will find that she certainly has a talent for finding unique objects with distinctive character.
Do yourself a favor and check it out!
Best,
Janet(Rice)and Evan(Shay)

JOEY:
Two photos attached. The first is "Red Roof" on Eastern Point taken from the "Ardelle in 2012." This was the home of A. Piatt Andrew – for whom the Route 128 bridge is named. He was an under secretary of the Treasury. Red Roof was demolished on December 14, 2012. The second photo is of "Red Roof Redux," the new house, taken from the "Thomas Lannon" on Sunday. The wing to the left and the stone work in front of the house were retained.

Find yourself in the Slideshow below:

Last week Janet and I parked ourselves at the Madfish Sushi Bar. It had a view of our two professional sushi chefs and Smith Cove. Our appetizer was a dozen Pemaquid (ME) oysters, which were new to us. They get Chowhound Fred’s seal of approval. Excellent! The waitstaff gives you prompt service and coordinates seamlessly with the chefs.
These are two sushi rolls: the Rocky Neck (L) and the Parisienne (R). So delicious, and there’s so much to choose from.
Not exactly dessert, but better. This the the "Toro" Sashimi. They sear the edges with a torch. It literally melts in your mouth!

EJ and Karen swung by the dock on their SUP vehicles. When I asked them if they had ever fallen they both replied only once or twice which amazes me and shows just how stable these things are.
To date I still haven’t tried it but I’m really looking forward to the back feeling like it’s not hanging on by a thread so I can get out there.
In the meantime check out the latest from Cape Ann SUP
What do you love about downtown Gloucester? What do you think could be improved?
The work to build a great downtown is never done. There have been several recent accomplishments including the City Hall restoration project, HarborWalk, and Harbortown Cultural District. And we continue to move forward.
Given these and other accomplishments, now is a good time to come together to talk about the next chapter of work downtown. Gloucester’s Community Development Department is holding three public meetings to frame future opportunities and develop a set of shared values for downtown. The resulting plan will inform the City’s work downtown.
Your participation is important. Please plan to attend all three public meetings over the summer.
The public meetings will be held on:
– Wednesday, July 10
– Tuesday, August 20
– Tuesday, September 17
All meetings will begin at 6:00 PM and will be held in the Kyrouz Auditorium on the second floor of City Hall.
