First Friday with Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket!

Friday, April 26th, 2019, 7:00pm

Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket has taken the New England music scene by storm since their debut in 2009. The full size ensemble has redefined the sound of classic funk, by slathering it with hip-hop, blending it with flavors of jazz, blues, rock, soul.

Hailing from Boston, Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket is led by the triple-threat of velvet-voiced front-woman Kobi, emcee Micah Casey (a.k.a. “Big Daddy Disco”), and guitar slinger/vocalist Ryan Green (a.k.a “Funk McNasty”). The ferocious and relentless groove of the bands all-original funk music is driven by the the thunderous rhythm section of drummer Dave Share, bassist Joe Cesarz, and percussionist Jim Schunemann. The groups hard-hitting pocket sound is rounded out by Keyboard extraordinaire Scotty King, and a horn section anchored by saxophonist Matt Oliphant, trombone player Rich Houghton, and trumpeter Bryan McCulloch.

Grand Opening of Mary Rose Vintage Designs on Main Street

image

Hi Joey-

I think people may be interested in learning about a beautiful and interesting new shop named Mary Rose Vintage Design, located at 269 Main Street in Gloucester.

My son Evan ( his pictures) and I completely enjoyed ourselves at the grand opening this past Sunday.

Just step through the front door and you will instantly feel just how lovely the owner, Jackie Colussi (pictured here) is by the warmth and heart she has put into the design of her shop.

You will find that she certainly has a talent for finding unique objects with distinctive character.

Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Best,

Janet(Rice)and Evan(Shay)

Gauthier Gallery Grand Opening

Last Sunday, I stopped by the Gauthier Gallery grand opening on Main Street.

I had visited (and posted about) the Gauthier Gallery before, so it was nice to see how things have been coming together.  Most of the artists involved were there:

There is a great selection of art there right now! Here are some sample shots:

It’s not just paintings; there are elaborately decorated boxes…

Painted wooden trunks…

… and colorful scarfs:

Elizabeth Gauthier has started a new activity at her gallery: painting parties!  From her website:

The-Painting-Party offers an upbeat evening of painting and socializing for both the artistic and the not so artistically inclined. You will be guided through step by step instructions by an accomplished art instructor. It’s fun and totally stress free.

And by the end of the night you will be amazed at the work of art that YOU created. You will go home with a painting that is uniquely yours – and perhaps a new found talent you’ll want to nurture!

She has a schedule on her website.

G33K Grand Opening Week sales on until Sunday

If you have ever wanted to make a customized tee-shirt, now is the time!  During the G33K store (130 Main St.) grand opening week, printing a custom design only costs $10 (plus the cost of the shirt), with no cost for setting up the design. You can bring in your own graphic or work with Allen to have him come up with the design you need using stock images. He prints them onto the shirts right there in the store, as I illustrated in an earlier post.

Also, if you want to play some video games but can’t afford an X-Box, you can go to the gaming room and play with their machines, for just $3 an hour discount price during the Grand opening.

If you want a funny tee-shirt but don’t feel like making up your own, the store has quite a stock of shirts with funny images and slogans:

There are also graphic novels, including a series of adaptations of Orson Scott Card’s “Ender’s Game” novels (which I am just starting to read – the novels, that is; the graphic novels will probably come later…).

There are also skateboards and related paraphernalia:

(Note the awesome pickle-riding-fire-breathing-rainbow-jumping liger shirt on the left in the photo above! I now have one of those without the text advertisement – thanks, Allen!) They also sell gaming supplies and other related items.  Quite a variety, really!

Lastly, if he’s not busy, you can chat with the owner, Allen, who is a really nice guy!  We were discussing scifi and fantasy novels as I took these photos.

G33K Grand Opening Tuesday-Sunday

The G33K store at 130 Main St. in Gloucester has been open for a little while, but now they are fully stocked!  They offer “geeky” and custom T-shirts, gaming materials, video games (which you can play right there in the back room), and now also graphic novels!

You can visit them on Facebook for more details.

Grand Opening of The Hive

Art Haven held the grand opening of it’s community center, The Hive, on Saturday, July 28th.  There was a good turn-out with a lot of local artists and familiar faces from Gloucester’s cultural community – plus, delicious food from Giuseppe’s!  They have done a great job preparing this space.

“Cape Ann Art Haven is a community space where artists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to develop creativity and confidence through hands on learning and collaboration.”

Here are some photos from the event.  For a slideshow, click on the mosaic below – or scroll down to see some highlights!

Save the date and come celebrate!

What better way is there to celebrate Art Haven’s four year anniversary than the GRAND OPENING of THE HIVE, their new adult and high school community center on Pleasant Street!?! So… Save the date – July 28th! Free event with food from Classic Cooks, dessert from Giuseppe’s and drinks from Pleasant Street Tea Company… It’s gonna be A LOT of fun. Come celebrate with us!

More info at Art Haven’s web site and the Facebook event page – hope you can make it!

The Cave, “Cheese Chocolate and Wine” – grand opening this week!

Remember The Cave,  “Purveyors of Cheese, Chocolate, and Wine”, soon to open at 44 Main Street in Gloucester, covered in this post last month?  They will be having their grand opening on the evening Thursday, June 21, from 5 to 7PM.

I met the proprietor, Laura Cramer at Bodin’s Historic Photo and Fine Art last week at the Dad’s Night Out event. I got a nice photo of Fred and Laura together – but I didn’t notice that I didn’t have a memory card in my camera…  So, you’ll just have to use your imagination.

She had brought along a platter of delicious cheese, crackers and olives:

Since people were a bit slow to come into the store, she took the platter outside to tempt passers-by:

The cheese was really delicious, and Laura really knows her business; she explained the origin and characteristics of each cheese, which she had obviously chosen with care.  Check out the store’s grand opening this Thursday! And don’t miss those evening events at Bodin’s Historic Photo. You’re bound to find interesting people and good food, not to mention Fred’s fascinating photos, paintings by local artists, and more.
