New gem from the heart of Gloucester’s most prolific songwriter says it all

Check out this video of Allen Estes’ new song, “We All Fall Down”, which premieres on his show Local Music Seen with Allen Estes tomorrow (WED) at 6:30pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Allen had been working on this song before the marathon bombing, which gave the song a more profound meaning closer to what we’re all feeling right now.  If this song doesn’t move you, nothing will.

In this special show, Allen is his own guest and sings four new songs and one older one from his Nashville writing days.  He ends with one of my new favorites, “Swimming” or “The Good Harbor Beach Song” — a perfect way to get into the Cape Ann Summer spirit!

The band who popularized country-rock and influenced the Eagles is coming to Shalin Liu on Friday and we were lucky enough to get Rusty Young, one of the band’s founders on the phone to talk about their new music and Friday’s show.

Renee & Joe on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes on Cape Ann TV Channel 12 Wednesday (tonight), at 6:30pm and airs again Friday at 1:30pm and Sunday at 6pm.

20130430_155500CrippleCoveThe Cripple Cove Quintet featuring The Goddesses will be performing three sets of pre-Beatles and Pub Rock at The Rhumb Line on Friday, May 3rd starting at 9:30pm.   The CCQ consists of husband and wife harmonizing duo Tony and Samantha Goddess plus Pete Koeplin on drums, Ryan Alto on bass, and Geoff Small on guitar.  No Cover/21+.

T Max has a new CD, new live shows and a new Noise magazine this week

T Max, founder/editor of The Noise, New England’s longest running music magazine, is all over Gloucester this month.  You can see him on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, which airs on Cape Ann TV tomorrow (WED) at 6:30pm, Friday at 1:30pm and Sunday at 6pm.  For all you Noise readers who don’t live on Cape Ann, catch the show on-line here.

Then on Thursday, you can see him live at Giuseppe’s in Gloucester with the Singer Songwriter Shuffle.  On April 17 he’s Fly Amero’s guest at The Rhumb Line.  Speaking of Fly, he’s on the cover of The Noise this month and guess who wrote the cover story?  (Read it here).  Tomorrow, Fly welcomes his family as special guests at The Rhumb Line for a very special surprise birthday party for his sister Joyce.

And to top it off, T Max has a new CD, Thinking Up A Dream (get it here) featuring eight brand-new original songs, one of which is based on a spontaneous burst of creativity he had while we were shooting a video series about music in Gloucester.  More on that in this post.

New TV Show on Good Harbor Beach Erosion Premieres Tonight

Gloucester’s Bob Quinn, who has been going to Good Harbor for the past 80 years, tours the dunes of Good Harbor Beach and comments on the poundin’ it took this winter.

Here is a clip from the half –hour show that airs all  week on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.

Show airs: Monday (tonight) at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.; Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.; Thursday at 8:30 p.m.; Friday at 12:30 p.m. and Saturday at 5:00 p.m.  See Channel Listings for more Cape Ann TV Shows.

Even though there’s still snow on the ground, it’s not too early to be thinking about swimming at Good Harbor.  So, to get you in the mood, here’s a very up-beat song Allen Estes wrote last Summer and performed on Local Music Seen.

Speaking of Allen, he’s appearing at Giuseppe’s this Thursday for the second week of the Singer Songwriter Shuffle along with his son Dylan and other local favorites Inge Berge, Steve Caraway, Marina Evans, Jon Waterman and Joe Wilkins.

Local singer/songwriter Steve Caraway featured on TV this week

Steve Caraway is Allen’s guest on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes this week, with his new show premiering tomorrow (WED) at 6:3o pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.

Steve talks about how he got started in the music business and reveals some songwriting secrets during a lively conversation with Allen.  It’s not easy making a living as a musician and Steve will give you some tips on how to do it well.  Plus you’ll get to hear one of Allen’s most popular sad songs and three gems from Steve Caraway.  Here’s one of them:

You can catch both Allen & Steve tonight (TUESDAY).  Allen is at Jalepenos at 7 with Brown, Mattacks & Ginandes, and Steve hosts the open mic at the Dog Bar at 9.

Charlie Farren premiered on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes on Wednesday (see details in this post)  Catch him again on Sunday 2/24 @ 6pm.  Then again on Wed 2/27 @6:30pm, Fri 3/1 @ 1:30pm and Sun 3/3 @ 6pm.

Charlie Farren on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes Tonight 6:30pm

Boston rock star Charlie Farren (lead singer/guitarist for The Joe Perry Project & Farrenheight) has emerged as an outstanding solo acoustic artist, who has always been known for great songs and great singing.  He proves why as the featured guest on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, which premieres tonight at 6:30pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.

You may remember that a couple of years ago, Charlie teamed up with Jon Butcher (another Boston rock star – see Jon Butcher videos here) to form Farren, Butcher, Inc. (FBI).  Perhaps you remember their spectacular benefit for the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team at Cruiseport!

Here’s a sneak preview of tonight’s premiere with Charlie singing his smash hit You Are The Only One.  Watch and you’ll know why he’s a star!

As you can see in the picture, when Aurelia Nelson and Henri Smith get together everybody has fun.

Aurelia decided to reprise last week’s Curtain Up again tomorrow SUN at 9am.  Don’t miss it this time.  Set your alarm and tune into 104.9FM.

Then at 6pm you can catch the very first Local Music Seen with Allen Estes show filmed on location.

Last Mardi Gras (2/21/12) after a brief studio intro, we took the cameras and crew to Minglewood Tavern  to film Henri Smith’s excellent band featuring Charles Neville at a Mardi Gras fundraiser for the Y Teens Rebuild New Orleans trip.  The result is a high energy concert and interview with Henri Smith and Charles Neville in Latitude 43’s super comfy lounge area.  This special show airs tomorrow (SUN) at 6pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12 and again WED 2/6 at 6:30pm

For Mardi Gras 2013, Henri Smith and his band featuring Charles Neville will perform their Y Benefit concert at the historic Larcom Theatre in Beverly this Friday, February 8th at 7:30pm.  Tickets are selling fast, so get yours here.  Plus, there’s a great VIP Package, including premium reserved seating in the first 5 rows, exclusive pre-show Mardi Gras party with a Cajun inspired buffet by Chianti’s of Beverly, meet & greet with the performers and more (see details here).  VIP Tickets are limited.  Get them here.

Jon Butcher on The Noise Cover & TV This week – here’s a preview video

I’m guessing nearly every music lover in Gloucester is as thrilled about Jon Butcher’s decision to move here as they are about T-Max’s doing the same a couple of years ago.  This week Gloucester celebrates Jon’s choice in two big ways: Jon’s on the cover of the February Noise Magazine, which should hit the streets tomorrow.  And he’s also Allen Estes’ guest on Local Music Seen, which you can see tomorrow at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Here’s one of Jon’s songs from the show.  Love his version of the blues!

BTW: You can see Allen tonight at Jalapenos 7pm with Brown, Mattacks & Ginandes (early enough the bring the kids).  And if Jon is in the audience, it’s a good bet that Allen will ask him to sit in.  Then check out Steve Caraway at Dog Bar and finish up with Henley Douglas Jr. at Rhumb Line.  Not bad for a Tuesday night in the middle of winter!  See full live music schedule here.

As we reported last night (in this post), Allen Estes joined Jon Butcher and Charlie Farren on Jon’s song Coleman Mine that he wrote for the HBO series Deadwood.  Jon and Charlie performed with James Montgomery and David Hull to a sold out house at Shalin Liu.  If you missed it, here’s the song from Allen’s show Local Music Seen.

Music tips for this weekend that you might not know about

Chelsea Berry will be Aurelia Nelson’s featured guest on her North Shore 104.9 show Curtain Up this Sunday, Jan 20, at 9am.  You don’t even have to get out of bed.  Just tune your clock radio to 104.9 and set it to go off at 8:59am.  Lie in bed and listen comfortably.

If you saw Jon Butcher on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, you’ll know he’s playing at Shalin Liu tonight with James Montgomery, Charlie Farren & David Hull.  As of this post there were about 15 tickets left and you can get them here.  Jon may ask Allen to join him on a song they performed together on the Local Music Seen.

Another good bet for tonight is Renee & Joe @ Minglewood Tavern.  Here they are at Latitude 43 for the November Berklee in Gloucester show:

BREAKING NEWS: Last night’s open mic @ Dog Bar was so great that Steve Caraway will host every Tuesday

What a great week of music this has been and it’s only Wednesday!

Last night Steve Caraway struck up the open mic again at Dog Bar and by all accounts it was a HUGE SUCCESS!  So much so that he’s decided to host every week.  Way to go STEVE!

Before Steve began at Dog Bar, Allen Estes sat in Dan King’s seat at Jalapenos and rocked the house with Dave Brown, Dave Mattacks and Wolf Ginandes.  All were at the top of their game, especially DB, whose solos took us away!

And I just have to say that it is such a pleasure listening to Dave Mattacks, whose percussion is absolutely perfect for every song .  He is without a doubt one of the best drummers alive today.  These guys are so professional they were able to follow Allen on one of his brand new songs, having never heard it before — and it sounded as if they’d just come from rehearsal.  Aren’t we lucky to have people of this caliber on Main St., in Gloucester every Tuesday for FREE!  Next week J.B. Amero is in Dan King’s seat.  Oooohh, that’ll be HOT!

It may be the dead of winter, but it’s not dead in Gloucester

A mighty fine week of live music is shaping up beginning with Allen Estes in Dan King’s seat with Brown, Mattacks & Ginandes at Jalapenos 7pm, followed by Steve Caraway’s open mic at Dog Bar at 9 and Henley Douglas at Rhumb Line at the same time.  You can get to all three excellent shows if you play your cards right.

Tomorrow, live music begins at 7 as well.  It’s nice to have live music that isn’t too late for kids.  And it’s good to get kids out to appreciate live music at a young age.

As the week progresses it becomes harder to get to every show, so you’re gonna have to choose.  See the live music lineup here and start thinking about the weekend.

What’s EBMG?

Not what, who?  You don’t think Jalapenos is going to cancel their wicked popular Tuesday night music — even though Dan King is off to the west coast, do you?  Nope.  This coming Tuesday, Dave Brown, Dave Mattacks and Wolf Ginandes (BM&G) will be joined by Allen Estes, hence: EBMG.

Those of you who like Christmas music are in luck tonight.  Fly Amero is signing Christmas songs with his brother J.B. and Allen Estes at the Rhumbline tonight starting at 8pm.

Then catch the Local Music Seen with Allen Estes 2011 Christmas Special at 11pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12 (originally aired last year) featuring Dan King, Daisy Nell & Capt. Stan, Ann Marie, Bradley Royds, Inge Berge, Chelsea Berry, Dave Sag, Courtney Reid and Allen’s son Dylan Estes.  Here’s a video of many of the performers singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Don’t panic, we’ve figured tonight out for you

Raffle Prizes for the GCA FundraiserYou’re overwhelmed.  So are we.  That’s why we’ve got an itinerary that you can follow to make sure you get everything you really want to do into tonight.  It’s good practice for tomorrow (Men’s night in case you haven’t been paying attention).

For those of you who like to start early, it’s dinner at Jalapenos GCA fundraiser at 5pm.  While you’re there, enter to win some great prizes pictured to the right.  You don’t have to be present when the prizes are drawn in order to win.  Just be sure your name is on the raffle ticket.

At 6:30 catch the PART 1 premiere of Dan King on his Local Music Seen with Allen Estes farewell tribute with special guest J.B. Amero that we previewed in this post.  You can run home to catch the show, or, better yet, ask the bar manager where ever you are to turn the TV to Channel 12.

Then at 7, head over to Alchemy to see Chelsea Berry and drop off a toy for the Pathways Toy Drive.

Finish up the night at with Fly Amero and his 80s rock star guest Jon Butcher at the Rhumb Line.  Whew!

Then be sure to get plenty of rest so you can start all over tomorrow at Men’s Night.
