Beth Williams Studio Lobster Bead

Beth Williams of Beth Williams Studio created this lobster bead after I read her tweet that she had just made a fish bead and I had suggested she make a lobster one.

The power of Twitter I tell ya!

So now I plan to head over to her studio and talk to her about the lobster bead.  Why?  Because I learned about it by casually following her on Twitter.   Funny how that works, huh?

Twitter for Artists

I have some time on my Hands or should I say hand? At the moment and I’ve been checking out twitter lately and I’ve changed my mind on it.

I didn’t like it at first. Couldn’t figure out what the big deal was about. But, it gets addictive. It gives you up to date info on what’s happening on what your interested in.

I follow “TWITS” on Cape Ann, Artists and News.

Here’s a list I found on Artists and photographers. Cape Ann Arts Map is listed here among  thousands of others from around the World.

Check it out!

Gloucester Fine Art, formally the Ortman Gallery has undergone some changes this cold winter. Carl Ortman has brought some friends in to add even more to the Gloucester art scene. The gallery is now representing four artists: painters Carl Ortman, Cody DeLong, and Josh Been, and local glass artist and sculptor Aron Leaman.

Please join Aron and Cody for Gloucester Fine Art’s Spring Preview Opening, as they have been busy this winter creating new work and it is time to showcase their craftsmanship. Cody just flew in from his gallery in Arizona and is ready to paint this week in lovely Gloucester; we will see what his hand can capture! Aron has been working on a spring line of small works, as well as his Cape Ann inspired sculptures. Carl and Josh are in Colorado painting away, and plan to be out in May and June.

Hope to see you this Saturday, March 26th 5:00 pm to whenever.

Louisa May Alcott Free Family Program at the Cape Ann Museum Saturday March 26th

Cape Ann Museum’s Saturday Showcase presents “A Visit with Louisa May Alcott”
In honor of Women’s History Month, the Cape Ann Museum presents “A Visit with Louisa May Alcott” on Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m.  Join us for a captivating living history experience with Jan Turnquist as Louisa May Alcott, the author of Little Women. This Saturday Showcase event is free and open to the public.
Jan Turnquist is the Executive Director of Orchard House, the Alcott family home in Concord, MA. Turnquist transforms herself into 19th century author Louisa May Alcott for a delightful and engaging experience. The author of Little Women brings us behind the scenes stories from her life: family friendships with Thoreau and Emerson; her unconventional upbringing in poverty; the family love that inspired her to write an American classic; and her vacation to Gloucester in 1868. From the youngest reader to the most sophisticated Alcott scholar to First Lady Laura Bush, audiences have acclaimed Jan’s performances, which are geared for ages 6 to 106. This interactive presentation is an inspiring experience for the mind and heart.
Introduced in September 2005, Saturday Showcase is designed to bring parents and children into the Museum to share enriching experiences. The focus is on the visual and performing arts, with strong ties to Cape Ann. Painters, musicians, dancers, and storytellers are among the artists who have presented programs. Funding to support the Saturday Showcase series has been provided by The Goldhirsh Foundation.
The Cape Ann Museum is located at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Museum is closed during the month of February, on Mondays, and on major holidays. Admission is $8.00 adults, $6.00 Cape Ann residents, seniors and students. Children under 12 and Museum members are free. The Museum is wheelchair accessible. For more information please call: (978) 283-0455. Additional information can be found online at www.capeannmuseum.org

Yesterdays “Art, Rocks!” Rock Found

I wanted to see if using Twitter for This “Art, Rocks!” thing would work. It did. Here’s the email I received;

Paul,

Very COOL.

I found the “Art, Rocks” at Good Harbor Beach. Nice sketch. I have to admit that I must have walked by it 2 or 3 times (I went across the street to look right after your tweet that you left one). The photo clue was what did it…I have been back and forth enough times on my first venture to have pretty much memorized the rocks along the sidewalk :-))).

Thanks for what you do, both for art and for Gloucester. You and Joey C are two of the Great Ones!

CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS

Painting from the Heart – Cultivating Intuitive Vision
with Color, Imagery, Print & Collage: by Sigrid Olsen

June 13-17, 2011

This workshop will incorporate a number of techniques Sigrid has developed to allow free and spontaneous use of color and print in order to express one’s personal life vision. The goal is to open up to possibility and leave each participant inspired to leave all preconceptions behind and get on with the business of highly creative living. The mood will be equally upbeat and introspective, technically instructional while reaching deeper to unleash inner imagination and self-expression. We will use a three part media: painting, print and collage. There will be a focus on color mixing, color theory and self expression through color utilizing permanent brilliant watercolor inks on paper. In combination with the watercolor under-painting, there will be a print component, employing hand-carved rubber print blocks. The workshop culminates in a collage using all the elements practiced over the past few days. The notion of inspiration will be explored through guided meditation, audio-visual presentation and open discussion.
