Gloucester Stage Education Director Heidi Dallin recently announced the Youth Acting Workshop classes and productions will move online for Summer 2020. Dallin announced that the professional theater training program will offer a full slate of Virtual theater classes for ages 6-18 as well as the first ever Summer YAW production featuring an entire cast of teen actors to be rehearsed and performed over zoom and streamed in August. Although GSC won’t be able to have students in the theatre this summer, classes will still be held online for 2 hours a week. YAW is embracing this new format by incorporating an acting for the screen workshop for all age groups in this summer session! The Summer session begins on July 6 and runs thru August 13. Sessions will be recorded in case a student can’t make a lesson, or wants to go back and watch it again.
Each age group of students will work on a variety of projects with Education Director and Award winning actress Heidi Dallin, a Gloucester native and Harvard University graduate, and a variety of guest artists including Hollywood director and editor Rick Blue; Academy Award nominated actress Lindsay Crouse, award winning director Benny Sato Ambush, singer and musician Marion Wolter, playwright Tyler Dwiggins and GSC Education Apprentices from previous seasons.
Juniors: 6-8 years old: Mondays and Thursdays: 10-11am: Creating Characters Online
Engaging our young actors with online instruction, creative imagination projections, theater games, and outdoor activities. Includes moments to share and interact with the class and culminates in a group musical video presentation. Music professional Marion Wolter joins us for virtual music instruction and 2016 Apprentice and Danvers native Sarah Vandewalle joins us for “short” story telling for film.
Pre-Teens: 9-12 years old: Mondays and Thursdays: 11 am-12 pm: Acting for the Small Screen
Taking advantage of the high-quality cameras we hold in our hands each day, and using fun resources available to take our self-video (self-vi?) to the next level. Apply acting skills to TikTok video challenges and creating and laughing together. 2019 Education Apprentice Liana Genoud joins us to teach acting for the camera.
Teens: 13-18 years old: Mondays and Thursdays: 12:30pm-1:30pm : SubTEXT by Tyler Dwiggins A ZOOM PERFORMANCE.
Rehearse and perform this new contemporary play over zoom. Sessions include the opportunity to meet and work with SubTEXT playwright Tyler Dwiggins, explore acting for the camera with tv and film director and editor Rick Blue (best known for long running tv series Scrubs), work with stage director Benny Sato Ambush on moving from the theater to zoom stage and get on camera acting advice from Academy Award nominee Lindsay Crouse.
Scholarships are available.
Even though everybody on the planet is just a text away, getting your message across has never been more complicated. subText is a hilarious series of vignettes detailing the awkwardness of high-school dating in the digital age. Will culminate in a zoom performance in August.
