Sunning Seals

Some seals sunning themselves on a recent spring day on Brace Cove. I think these are the first pictures I’ve gotten of these guys on a bright sunny day.   We were happy to see such a great post storm restoration down there!

Teen Girls emPOWERed Yoga Workshop

Treetop Yoga Studio's avatarCape Ann Wellness

Treetop Yoga (3A Pond Rd, Gloucester) welcomes our local teen girls this Sunday for a specialty workshop. Teenage yoga is an excellent way to help your child deal with the overwhelming emotional and physical changes that she goes through during adolescence. This workshop will introduce girls to basic yoga poses and connect the poses through a fun flow. We will also find support from each other with partner poses and games. Finally, there will be a short conversation period to learn how to use either breathing techniques or the yoga practice to help calm the mind when girls face stressful moments in the classroom, on the playing field, or during everyday social interactions. Pre-register HERE.

“I was feeling really stressed out in math class the other day, but I pretended I was in Savasana at my desk, and it helped me finish my work. It was crazy. No one…

GoFundMe Page For Astrid and Fred (West Gloucester fire)

image

Hello Joey,

As you probably heard, there was a major fire at a house in West

Gloucester earlier today resulting in a total loss of the home and all

possessions. It was the home of my next door neighbors Astrid af

Klinteberg and Fred Day.  Both of them made it out safely along with

their dog Amelia and eventually they found one of their cats.

A GoFundMe page has been setup at

https://www.gofundme.com/please-help-astrid-amp-fred?viewcontent=92869302

to help them get back on their feet.

If at all possible, publishing a link on the GoodMorningGloucester page

would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joel Swan (a.k.a. http://simplycapeann.blogspot.com/)

Our Young Swan Suffers a Second Attack

The Young Swan has survived a second attack by Mr. Swan, but only barely. He is injured and needs veterinary care.
The Young Swan is temporarily back at Lyn Fonzo’s swan sanctuary, until a forever home can be found. Photo courtesy Lyn Fonzo.
Katia Mason shares the following, “Tonight the Young Swan was being chased then attacked by the Senior Male Swan in the Harbor. The neighbors at Hawthorne Point ran into the harbor and broke up the attack and protected the young swan.  Thank goodness for Jodi Swenson at Cape Ann Wildlife who got their message and came to help complete the rescue before the tide came in and it got too dark.
Thanks to the Good Morning Gloucester Blog, neighbors had been following the story and knew what was happening. “

COME LEND A VOICE TO HELP GLOUCESTER’S PIPING PLOVERS AT TONIGHT’S ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

Gloucester’s Animal Advisory Committee is meeting tonight to vote on whether or not to change the Good Harbor Beach dog rules. The meeting is at 6:30 at City Hall, 3rd floor. At present dogs are allowed at GHB through April 30th. Our hope is that the new ordinance would shorten the time, to end on March 31st. Nesting Piping Plovers, as well as the many species of shorebirds migrating through (and some also nesting at) Good Harbor Beach would benefit tremendously from this change to the ordinance. Thank you!

I knew once I saw weather and the quick rain storm was coming through around 5 that the sunset would be amazing.. and it sure was even more then I could have predicted. Once I saw the sky clearing up on the horizon I grabbed gear and off I went to Corliss Landing.
