With Jimin Park on piano and Sahil Warsi on double bass, these talented musicians perform frequently in Boston jazz ensembles. Gloucester’s Animal Advisory Committee is meeting tonight to vote on whether or not to change the Good Harbor Beach dog rules. The meeting is at 6:30 at City Hall, 3rd floor. At present dogs are allowed at GHB through April 30th. Our hope is that the new ordinance would shorten the time, to end on March 31st. Nesting Piping Plovers, as well as the many species of shorebirds migrating through (and some also nesting at) Good Harbor Beach would benefit tremendously from this change to the ordinance. Thank you!

Featuring film, poetry, dance, music, art-making activities, historical presentations and more, along with the Motif No.1 Day 5k and Fun Run, (organized by the Rockport Public Schools’ WELL team), M1D is a festival with something for everyone. M1D focuses on honoring Rockport’s heritage of the arts, along with showcasing the arts in today’s Rockport.

An afternoon designed to make every herpetologist happy! We’ll start with a hunt for local snake species around the Crane Estate, looking under logs and around the stone walls that lace the property. Capture will be strictly catch and release! We’ll then make our way to the Barn where Rick Roth, founder and executive director of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team and local snake expert, will present “Snakes of New England and the World.” Rick cares for over 100 snakes of all different species — even if we don’t find any slithering friends on our hunt, there will be plenty of snakes to see and learn about during the show!

Traditonal risotto is made using arborio rice, which is white and glutinous and produces a very creamy rice dish. The trick to making a creamy and tasty brown rice risotto is to use short grain rice and lots of veggie stock.
3/4 cup short grain brown rice
2 cups vegetable or mushroom stock
1 Tbsp each butter (or ghee) and olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 red onion, chopped
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp dried basil
1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and chopped
black pepper
grated parmesan or reggiano cheese
In a medium, heavy pot, heat the butter (or ghee) and olive oil. Add onions, garlic and red pepper flakes, sauteeing until soft. Stir in rice, basil and half the stock. Let simmer covered on medium for 20 minutes, then add…
