Somehow, lost in the beauty of Essex’s Conomo Point with views of open water, far away dunes and the Essex River, the boathouses and barns can slip into the background.

The Schooner Sugarbabe Has New Sails
Hi
Here is a few hundred shots of the “Babe” running around Gloucester Harbor with a new suit of sails…made by Roy Downs….they are fantastic and makes the babe go really well. Have a few tweaks to do on the main to take out the crease. I can hardly wait for the snow to melt so the Babe can sail again. She will be put into winter storage (in the water) at Beacon Marine in East Gloucester shortly.
The Crew was made up of three schooner skippers, a 5th place finisher of the Whitbred Circumnavigation of the World Race, and a friend who helped out all summer. Additionally there were three photographers placed in different locations to capture these wonderful photos. It was extremely enjoyable to have these friends aboard for the LAST SAIL OF 2013.

Plum Street’s Spooky Businessman
Brave Meadow Anderson with Spooky Businessman
Every Halloween, about an hour before sunset, Spooky Businessman appears on our front porch, just in time to welcome the night’s trick-or-treaters. This year, several trick-or-treaters were BRAVE ENOUGH to sit on his lap! He leaves shortly after all have gotten their treats, only to appear again on the following All Hallows’ Eve.
The following morning as the children in the neighborhood are walking to school, I oftentimes see them staring intently at our home, or some furtively looking over their shoulder, I think half-expecting to see see Spooky Businessman.
See you again next year Plum Street Trick-or-Treaters (and Spooky Businessman)!

Another Rubber Duck Awesome Idea
Rolling rally Saturday. Wake up on Sunday with a hangover. Day of rest. Now what do you do? By Monday there are 108 days left until pitchers and catchers report to spring training. What is it about that number? It happens to be the number of Red Sox wins in 2013. So.
NESN, please play in sequence each winning game at midnight (maybe even the shortened Sox in 2) each night for 108 days. Then the next day, winter is over and Salty is welcoming the pitchers into camp.
Works for Rubber Duck. Rubber Duck hates surprise endings. She loves watching the Sox when she knows they are going to win. Even those 21 walk offs. It will warm your heart in the midst of a cold and dark winter.

Fish on Fridays
The Fish on Fridays series is a collaboration between Gloucester photographers Kathy Chapman and Marty Luster. Look for various aspects of Gloucester’s centuries-old fishing industry highlighted here on Fridays.
Last weekend Kathy spent time in NYC. While she was there checking out the migratory art scene in it’s latest hot location of the Lower East Side, she stumbled across this fishmonger. There were great prices on whole fish: red snapper, hybrid striped bass, scup, butterfish, but what is that long shiny fish out in front?
Trick or Treating on Main Street
Even though it was raining on Thursday it was a lot of fun on Main Street.
Rockport Legion Band Holiday Concert – December 8th
Listen to Slide Master Calvin Cooke’s interview on Aurelia Nelson’s Curtain Up here

Don’t worry if you missed Aurelia Nelson’s wonderful interview, on her show Curtain Up, with Calvin Cooke (the B.B. King of gospel steel guitar) on Sunday at 9am (like we did because we were at Joey’s surprise birthday Mug Up).
You can listen to the whole thing right here.
Calvin tells the fascinating story of the birth Sacred Steel and how he blends its unique sound with blues and classic rock on The Slide Brothers’ latest CD and live in concert.

This is rare chance to see the greatest living masters of steel guitar (the people who taught Robert Randolph how to play) close up and close to home. Local virtuoso Michael Thomas Doyle (who played with Robert Randolph, while at Berklee) opens the show.
Good seats in the historic Larcom Theatre’s fully restored horseshoe balcony are still available (get them here).

Happy MOVEMBER! 2013
About Movember.com;
Happy MOVEMBER! 2013

“As an official global charity, Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches on men’s faces around the world. Through the power of the Mo, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.
HOW IT WORKS Movember encourages men to join the movement by growing a moustache for the 30-days of November. After registering on Movember.com, these generous Mo Bros start the month clean-shaven, then grow and groom their Mo (slang for moustache), asking friends and family to donate to their efforts. With their new moustaches, these Mo Bros bring much needed awareness to men’s health issues by prompting conversations wherever they go.
Movember’s not just for men. Mo Sistas are an important part of Movember’s success. Once registered, Mo Sistas raise funds and encourage the men in their lives to get involved. Essentially, Mo Sistas do everything that Mo Bros do, without a Mo. Learn more about Mo Sistas here.
At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their Movember journey by throwing their own Movember events or attending one of the official Gala Partés held around the world.”
Sista’s Helpful Tips
Today I thought I’d take todays post as an opportunity to answer the mystry question about where one can purchase Fig Filling. If your questioning why one might be asking then you must not have purchased a copy of my cookbook yet. For those who have, I thank you very much for your support and hope your enjoying every page! My recipe for Pork Tenderloin with Vidalia Onion Fig Sauce on page 196 includes fig filling in the list of ingredients, many folks are writing in asking where it is sold. I have seen it in many grocery stores but the other day while I was shopping at Market Basket I noticed the Fig Filling on the shelf, and took out my phone and snapped this photo to clarify it’s exact location in the store to make your life a little easier. Fig filling can be found at the far end of aisle #7 .
Happy Shopping …I know what I’m making for Sunday Dinner this week!
