Taps
By Peter A. Todd
Thepoetryofpeteralberttodd.weebly.com
In gentle fields of green and white
We pay homage to those who reside with God
Soldiers of the past who fought the good fight
Now interned to the earthly sod
With the sound of Taps filling the air
Within the echoes of the winds of time
The mourners weep and the children stare
Seeking answers to their questions to find
Why must it be that we loose so many we love
From the Demon’s treacherous acts of war
This reaching thought cut by the sound of taps
As above the sky the American Eagle soars
Our Nations Flag lowered to half staff
With it colors of Red, White and Blue
Red representing the blood that our soldiers shed
Just as the Son of God shed for all of you

I love it when the flags are up.Im sure its just a matter of time when some nit-wit will complain about them.

nit wit checking in. All those flags are in the way of a beautiful view. Nothing against the” red white and blue”, but imagine the Grand Canyon lined with flags, whew,it just is the wrong place. Why is a difference of opinion always a “nit-wit ” in this town, why no compromise ,like having the flags up for just a few weeks?

I can understand those who feel the flags distract from that wonderful open view; however, I feel that THE most appropriate time to have them on display is for Memorial Day. They really bring home what the (holi)day is all about – honoring those who have served our country and kept it free for all of us. It obviously takes a large crew of dedicated people to put up that display … probably why it stays for the three holidays of “summer.” I personally look forward each year to having this display – to me it is one of the things that sets Gloucester apart from every other place. For a bit more than 3 months I am reminded of why I’m here.

Linn is huffing and puffing at me so if anyone sees this, I just wanted it known that I posted the above comment from her laptop and neglected to notice that it automatically put her name in instead of mine. The above comment reflects my views and not hers.

I too think it so right to honor our servicemen .
The flags are only a small symbol for the
great things they did,
