Your Used Car Recommendations

I Need Your Used Car Recommendations Please

Recently I lost my 2000 Kia Sephia. It failed horribly it’s safety inspection. The Kia was rattling and rolling along in it’s last months and there was no chance I was going to put over 2k in that car. I bought the Kia for $500 as a band aid after my beloved Tracker blew it’s engine. The car lasted me over two years. It had no carpeting, so you could feel and hear everything it kicked up. The outside drivers door handle didn,t work so you had to leave the window open half way so you could reach in and open the door.

Now I need you help. There are so many cars out their that it’s hard to find the right one to fit my needs and personality. I see so many cars around Cape Ann with GMG Stickers on them that I think could be a good fit.

Here is my wish list for my new used car; Reliability, space for my painting equipment, comfort, visibility, a place for a GMG Sticker or two, maybe AWD or 4×4, drives like a car not a truck.

I’m not a big car fan and don’t care about looks or age

Please comment on this post and let me know if you would recommend your ride or not and tell me the reason.

Please help me out. It’s so confusing to pick the right one. Also if your selling one in good condition let me know by commenting on this post.

My beloved KIA Sephia. Just a memory.

  1. Ford ranger. Will go forever!!! Very low cost of ownership. Remember that, it adds up over time. Used Volvo, Volkswagen, BMw, Audi are all nice but cost a fortune to keep going.

  2. Hi Paul –
I have a Ford Explorer Sport, 2001, very good condition, and well maintained at 170K –
She’s listed on craigslist for photos, and located on Briar Neck if you want to see it – I’m pretty flexible on the price, and she’s been 100% dependable – let me know if you want to see her!

  3. We bought a Toyota Sienna van (used) from Sudbay last year for our livery service. So far, the car has been outstanding, has good comfort factor, fair gas mileage, all wheel drive (I took it to the airport 4 times during our last Nor’easter!) and plenty of room! I’d look around for one of those if you can. I highly recommend it, though ours is not for sale!

  4. I think you would look good in a Corvette. It gets good mileage and it has a big back window to put a GMG sticker on it ………Just my opinion.

  5. Subaru Outback Sport – not the outsized wagon or forester. This car is a sleeper. I’ve had mine 10 years almost 200K miles. Its reliable, never breaks down, my mechanic keeps wanting to buy it from me. Its got lots of room in back for hauling your stash, its amazing how much you can fit into it. Drives solid on highway, did great in VT with the snow, good parking for city. Love my Soob!

  6. I had a Suburu until I kept getting high centered on snow berm when they were plowing. I’ve had my Toyota Tacoma since 1995 and no major problems and the height of the cab gives me great visibility. Plus it handles tightly.

  7. Hi Paul,

I bought my first Prius in 2005, which I purchased new. Knock-on-wood, but it is 8 years old and we have never had to replace or do a single thing to it, besides scheduled maintenance. This car gets 45 miles to the gallon. Last year when Alex went to college, I didn’t want him driving an old junk on Vermont icy, mountainous roads. I gave him mine and purchased a 2008 Prius with only 30,000. This is because my father-in-law, who is a very wise financial guy, always buys used cars with low-mileage, both daily drivers and the antique cars he collects. This new(er) Prius is in mint condition. I still get 45 miles to the gallon, but Tom has a technique for driving where he is able to average about 52 miles per gallon. Like the Subaru mentioned above, I can fit sofas and 200 plants in the back, when the middle seat is flattened.

Good luck and I hope you find the perfect car!

  8. I have always had good luck with cars. Except when I’ve crashed but never got hurt or killed anyone so, that’s still good luck, right? I’d recommend a used Toyota Highlander or RAV 4. Drives like a car because it’s on a Camry chassis. Cool huh? Automatic and 4×4 or AWD. What? You want mine? Forget it. Get your own. Get like a 2005-2008 model. Not expensive that way. Good luck. Wanna see mine? I’ll stop by during the week. Your Favorite Aflac Guy, Steve

  9. I have a Kia now, and I love it. It’s an 08 Spectra, which probably wouldn’t be the right shape for you. But theymake differently shaped ones which might work. The one that looks like a Stormtrooper might do. I feel like since you loved a previous Kia, maybe another would work. After El Guapo (my car) dies (hopefully many years from now) chances are good that I’ll get another Kia.
