Joey …. Schooners will be arriving for the Festival in less than two weeks. For some it will be a trek, but getting here can be half the fun. Sometimes. Depending on the breeze.
GREEN DRAGON is a ‘local’ boat but we are not always local. Here we were bound for the Festival. WHERE is this?

Fred… maybe it kinda looks like it but it ain’t Owl’s Head. Did you think the lighthouse fell off the cliff? And Bill …. Isles of Shoals ain’t that tall. I’ll be sailin’ down to Gloucester Saturday and would be willin’ to serve up a nice little cup of rum for whoever gets it first if they can find Green Dragon.

Will…. Make up your mind. Your first guess was correct. This is the east side of Monhegan and it is a bit out of the way but well worth an up-close look. We were sailing from Spruce Head to the Gloucester Schooner Festival and conditions were right for diverting off to the south before heading SW for Cape Ann.

The direct course to Cape Ann from the Penobscot is well inside Monhegan but a friend had persuaded me to go out there to see the outside cliffs. We had a nice easterly and skirted them up close, simply easing the sheets as we rounded. They have a dramatic, distinctive look, somewhat different than the other places mentioned here. I know that many Cape Ann artists have made the trek out there and have created countless paintings from the cliffs. We were close enough that day to see a lot of artists at work.
