Did You Know? Pomeranians and the Fairy Dog Ma

The Pomeranian (often known as a Pom, or more humorously, Pom Pom) is a breed of dog of the Spitz type, named for the Pomerania region in Central Europe (today part of eastern Germany and northern Poland). Classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size, the Pomeranian is descended from the larger German Spitz.

The breed has been made popular by a number of royal owners since the 17th century. Queen Victoria owned a particularly small Pomeranian and consequently the smaller variety became universally popular. During Queen Victoria’s lifetime alone, the size of the breed decreased by 50%. Overall, the Pomeranian is a sturdy, healthy dog and incredibly smart, cute and sweet.

This pomeranian is named Paco.  He and his owner, Jen Nicol are my next door neighbors and regular visitors.  Jen is also known as the Fairy Dog Ma http://www.fairydogma.com/.  She is great with animals of all varieties and is a 100% reliable, full time pet care provider offering services customized to suit you and your pet’s needs. These include pet/house sitting, individual or group walks to park/woods/beaches for socialization and lots of exercise. Jen’s motto and belief is that a tired dog is a good dog!  If you need someone to look after your 4-legged family member while you are at work or away, call the Fairy Dog Ma.  You’ll love her and so will your best friend.

Captain Joe and Sons Forktruck Study In Black and White

Some may scratch their heads and wonder why anyone would want to take pictures of a greasy, rusty old forktruck.  Others may find some beauty in the images.

All in the eye of the beholder.

It was fun messing around focusing on different parts of the machine and using the light streaming through the front door of the dock to create shadows and highlight what I wanted highlighted.

Waldo – Pet of the Week

Waldo – Pet of the Week

Waldo

Hello, my name is Waldo and I am on the look-out to all those on Cape Ann.   There must be one person out there looking for an adorable ten-week-old boy pup who thinks he might be a Shepherd mix who is black-and-tan and 100% cute.  I am at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, a non-profit shelter for homeless cats and dogs located at 260 Main Street in Gloucester.

I want to wish everyone happy holidays and I know this New Year I might be celebrating with my new family.  No champagne for me; I will be happy just to have a family to celebrate with!

DO YOU REMEMBER?!

Say Hi and thank him for the music he created when we “i” were young. the late 70’s and early 80’s was a great time for local music. Jon’s Band {Jon Butcher Axis}, The Megawatt Blue Crushers with Doc Vincent, The Fool’s with Doug Foreman, and the Nervous Eaters were my favorites. do a search on youtube for your favorites and Enjoy!

Chris Coyne fine art

On one of my recent expeditions to Bearskin Neck I ventured into Chris Coyne’s gallery, “Chris Coyne Fine Art + Design“.

The entrance to his gallery at 37 Bearskin Neck

The painting in his window is almost identical to a photo I posted not long ago. He has good taste in subject matter…

My photo of the same subject:

Chris was kind enough to pose with his artwork, which is quite beautiful:

I really liked his painting of a Rockport landmark, Tuck’s. The façade seems to glow with its own light!

His work is offered at a wide range of sizes and prices. It’s worth stopping by for a visit, maybe for a last-minute Christmas shopping trip. According to his website, the gallery is “open year-round by chance or by appointment.”

Sista Felicia Pinulata Recipe At The Gloucester Times Taste of The Times

image

As always you can click at along the top bar of GMG where it says “Sista Felicia Recipes” and access them at your leisure.  They are all right there with a simple search.

From The Times Taste of The Times website-

If you grew up in a Sicilian or Italian household or ever went to one at this time of year you may remember these treats. These are an Italian holiday treat that you can make ahead and leave in serving dishes around your house. The way that Felicia (Ciaramitaro) Mohan makes them, based on her Grandmother Felicia’s recipe, are little bites of fried dough slathered in a honey/Kayo syrup mixture and topped with bits of chocolate, toasted nuts and fresh cinnamon.

“This Is Gloucester” DVD Deposit For Rebuilding The Greasy Pole Complete

DSC00101

To those of you who bought This Is Gloucester DVDs, 5% of sales went to the Rebuild the Greasy Pole Fund.  There are a few people who haven’t paid for theirs but I included the 5% for those sales even though the dough didn’t come in just to be done with it and have it all off my plate and enjoy the holiday.

The last DVD’s went in the mail this morning and I’d like to extend a huge thanks to the nice lady at The Gloucester Post Office on Dale Avenue who was very helpful in giving me suggestions and super patient with me at the counter.  They are very pleasant at the Post Office even in the heart of the shipping season.

You can still donate if you would like to rebuilding the Greasy Pole.  Anyone  looking to donate to the restoration can send a check to Greasy Pole Fund, care of Cape Ann Savings Bank, 19 Main St., Gloucester 01930, or designate the check for the Greasy Pole Fund and send it to the St. Peter’s Fiesta Committee, P.O. Box 3105, Gloucester, 01930.

Community Stuff Tuesday

Recently, Matter Communications, working on behalf of the Chamber, invited Examiner.com reporter Charlene Peters to visit Gloucester for a weekend of winter fun. As Charlene recently started up a “destination spa” column, we included a visit to The Well of Integrative Medicine, on Main Street.  The writer and her husband had a wonderful experience in the expert hands and feet of two of the Well’s massage therapists – read about their experience here:

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar therapy offered within fishing port of Gloucester, Mass.

This is great news for The Well and Gloucester, as Examiner.com receives over 7 million unique visitors a month!

SEACOAST NURSING AND REHABILITATION CENTER’S HO-HO HOTLINE

This holiday season, children of Cape Ann have a direct line to Santa’s workshop through SEACOAST NURSING AND REHABILITATION CENTER’S HO-HO HOTLINE. From December 19 through December 23, from 3-5 p.m., children’s calls will be answered by Santa, Mrs. Claus or one of their elves.

While Santa, Mrs. Claus and their helpers won’t make any promises to the children, they will listen to the children’s wishes and encourage them to be on their very best behavior. The phone number for Seacoast’s Ho-Ho Hotline is 978-283-1515.
