We like to support Gloucester Stage and Heidi Dallin, and try to see anything with Lindsay Crouse. There’s no question that Gloucester Stage productions are mostly terrific.
Tom Hauck’s GMG review compelled us to see the New England premiere of The Effect, Lucy Prebble’s 2012 dramatic play at Gloucester Stage. It’s a go see for sure! I think it’s the best play about thorny life and medical themes since Wit. We can delight in Prebble’s dynamite dialogue because the direction, acting, and set are pitch perfect.
Who knew? You can bring that glass of prosecco you didn’t finish back to your seat.
There’s an elegant new gallery on Main Street, the Hudson Gallery, and while David Robinson’s beautiful photo exhibit is on display is the perfect time to check it out. The gallery’s lighting is simply gorgeous and the space has a lovely flow. On our way out to dinner, Tom and I only stayed for a few moments, but naturally, we ran into Heidi Dallin and friends 🙂

We were told that yesterday’s Cape Ann Symphony’s 65th Anniversary Season concert “Romantic Masters” was the orchestra’s most sold out March concert, ever. Great job, Heidi Dallin, on promotion!
My son spotted Heidi’s name in the playbill and Yellow Sub, along with many other local names and arts supporters. It takes a village.
By the way– kids tickets are $5 at these concerts. Area schools benefit from Cape Ann Symphony performance outreach.
Cape Ann Symphony’s next concert is: SCANDINAVIAN SPECTACULAR Saturday, March 20, 2017 8PM
Before setting off into the next piece, Musical Director & Conductor Yoichi Udagawa breaks down a mini music lesson excerpt with the orchestra. He has a signature foot lift when he conducts.
Here’s a snippet of glorious music. Can you name that tune?

Happy travelers are such a joy! Meet Dean and Cathy King from Adelaide. They went to Washington and New York where they caught this Holland America cruise to Canada. They said the entertainment director outlined the demographics: 110 Aussies, 700 or so Canadians, 700 or so Americans, many countries represented by 10+ passengers and 13 New Zealanders, “to be precise.” They were squaring away their plans in Cruiseport until an 11:45AM tour to Rockport, and later walking downtown Gloucester. Their friends signed up for an 8AM tour. I spent time in Adelaide and loved it. I hope they have as great a time here, and memorable trip all around.
Before reaching Cruiseport, passengers like the Kings are shuttled ashore by tender boats.
The tenders hold more people than you think!
As they came ashore they were greeted with soaring vocals of Three Sheets to the Wind.
What a reception! Many visitors stopped to take their photo.
Passengers stream upstairs to happy greeters.
The lines ebb and flow with every tender.
Maps and brochures are selected as passengers head outside to enjoy a day in Gloucester and Cape Ann.
